Fellowship Hall Update

The Fellowship Hall renovations are looking great and will provide a terrific new worship space for our contemporary services. However, the project will not be complete until the end of October. As with many projects, we have experienced various delays causing us to extend our completion date. The latest, and most substantial is related to the carpet replacement. There is an adhesive containing asbestos under the original tile floor from the 1950s. With the removal of our current carpet, the tiles will be disrupted. We are now required to properly remove the hazardous material. We are receiving bids from licensed asbestos removal contractors. Once the Council approves the contractor, there is a ten-day courtesy notification to the Minnesota Department of Health, then the actual work will take approximately three days. The church and schools will not have to close during this period. Safety for all involved is a primary concern; we have received confirmation that the process of asbestos removal is fully contained. The Fellowship Hall will become its own controlled environment completely sealed off from the rest of the church. We have the funds to cover this unexpected project through our Reserve Account once the Council approves a contractor.
