Ethos & Mission Statement Magna Minors “Seeking to be a bridge between home and school” Magna Minors positively embraces the individual needs of each child in our care, and the varied cultural values that each of our families bring to the setting. We aim to make facilities, resources and activities inclusive and personalised to each child’s interests and abilities.

Facilities & Resources Our settings have been built and resourced using “DDA” guidelines, alongside Ofsted requirements and relevant research, together with the wide experience in care and education of the Magna Minors team, to ensure that the environments both inside and outside are meeting the needs of all children . Areas are planned to facilitate both calmness and stimulation and are all fully accessible. Magna Minors is able to make reasonable adjustments in the adaptation of areas where needed, seeking advice from parents, external professionals and the Bath & North East Somerset Authority Area Senco. Magna Minors has received the Baby Quality and Toddler Quality Awards from Bath & North East Somerset Authority, and has been recognised in their Ofsted inspections as “ creating an inclusive environment for each child through their good knowledge of individual children's backgrounds and needs overall. Staff work sensitively with parents.” “Links with other agencies based in the children's centre with the pre-school are being developed very well. This helps staff to gain further professional input in their aims to support children's individual needs.”

Personnel All Magna Minors personnel are DBS checked, qualified and have the necessary qualities to work with young children and babies. Through a rigorous recruitment and induction program we ensure that the right people are employed to care for and educate your children. The Magna Minors team regularly receive update training (generalised and specific), and we welcome outside professionals to provide further guidance. Training such as First Aid, Food Hygiene, Child Protection, Safeguarding, and Health & Safety are completed on a regular basis. Magna Minor’s Co-Owner has been recognised by Bath & North East Somerset Authority for her work with families whose children have additional needs, and our Pre-School Manager has been trained on the “Every Child a Talker” program.

Your Child’s Milestones Through on-going observations, assessment and reviews (together with Early Years Foundation Stage guidance), we identify where a child needs additional support to attain their next steps. Through training, extensive experience and knowledge shared within the team, all children’s development is closely monitored. Your child’s milestones are shared with you through regular parent consultations and your child’s observation book. Our “open door” policy is strong and we welcome feedback from parents on a regular basis.

Parent Partnerships We aim to build strong links with our families, and offer support and reassurance as we build confident parent partnerships. Daily reports are given and discussions regarding your child’s progress are welcomed to share ideas and strategies. A more formal “parent’s evening” is arranged every 6-8 weeks. Regular newsletters provide further information of ongoing events. Should you need further advice which Magna Minors is unable to provide, we can “signpost” you to someone who can, for example, the Parent Partnership Service.

Inter-Agency Partnerships Magna Minors has built strong working relationships with outside professional teams in our work with several families over the last 15 years. We strive to learn more about the often complex needs and experiences that face many of our families. By liaising with families, other settings and professionals within “Team around the Child” meetings, by phone or informal discussion we are able to keep a regular and efficient open relationship enabling us to fully support children in their on-going

development and interests. Children experience transitions within the settings and further onto school. Magna Minors invites teachers to come and meet with your child within our setting to enable your child to feel secure in their transition. Should additional provisions be needed at any time for your child, funding pathways are explored and relevant enquiries made. We support our families in any way we can.

Policies We have a wide range of Policies and Procedures which all Magna Minors personnel adhere too. For further information regarding any of our policies please contact: Sadie Preston, Early Years Development Manager on 01272 333900 or email [email protected]
