General Setup Using the Pulse II to race cars on the floor – or on the FasTrak? In Step 1, refer to section that applies to you. 1. Floor setup: Set the Pulse II finish gate on the track, centering the unit over the finish line.

FasTrak: Remove the four feet on the bottom of the unit. This requires a 1/8" Allen wrench. Then, set the Pulse II finish gate on the track and center the unit over the finish line.

Insert one detector in the upper socket and insert the other in the lower socket, corresponding to the position of the emitter bulbs (Figure 3).

3. Before inserting the finish detector pigtails, note the positions of the emitter bulbs on the emitter tube. The detectors should be aligned with the emitter bulbs.

2. Plug in the emitter cord. The emitter is the tubular piece hanging under the finish gate. Plug the cord into the jack labeled emitter on the left side of the finish gate (Figure 1).

4. Plug the end of the detector pigtails into the jacks labeled “detector” on the sides of the finish gate (Figures 1 and 2). 5. Plug the appropriate end of the 70' cable into the DIN-type socket on the right side of the finish gate. Extend the other end of the cable toward the start end of the track. 6. Do not connect to AC power at this time. Connect the 70' cable to the starting system hardware. Refer to the following section that applies to your system.

Connecting Pulse II to Your Existing Hardware Manual Start Raceway

1. The whisker switch connected to the 70' cable must be attached to your existing manual start gate. The whisker switch must be positioned so the start gate slammer arm will activate the switch when it is triggered (Figure 4).

CAUTION: If you cock the slammer arm while attaching the whisker switch, have someone hold it to prevent accidental triggering and injury.

2. You will need to trim and slightly bend the wire lever of the switch so it engages the slammer arm. Before doing this, hold the switch in its location but do not adhere it (Figure 4). Move the slammer arm through its range of motion. This will help you determine how to bend and trim the wire (Figure 5). 3. Peel off the backing from the adhesive pad on the whisker switch and adhere in its proper position. Make sure the electrical wire runs behind the slammer arm (Figure 6). 4. Connect the AC adapter to the finish gate and an AC outlet. You are now ready to test the system.

Pulse Electronic Start System:

Locate the 15-pin adapter pigtail and the IDC connector (with red button) that came with your existing Pulse system. If you do not have an IDC connector, call Pitsco Customer Service at 800-358-4983. 1. Cut the whisker switch from the end of the 70' cord (Figure 7). Separate the two wires at the end of the 70' cord. Stripping the insulation is not necessary.

2. Separate the ends of the two wires of the 15-pin adapter pigtail. 3. Insert the two wire ends of the adapter plug and the two wire ends of the 70' cable into the IDC wire connector. When the wires are properly seated in the connector, push down the red button. This should securely fasten the adapter plug to the 70' cable (Figure 8). 4. Plug the adapter plug/70' cable into the Pulse control box or the launch adapter module (Figure 9).

PITSCO SET OF FIVE DR. ZOON DRAGSTER VIDEOS Dr . Zoon knows dragsters and so will your students after viewing the entire Dr. Zoon Dragster video series . They will understand how the laws of motion, friction, and aerodynamic drag govern dragster design . Students will learn how to construct a prototype from Styrofoam and how to safely and effectively use power or hand tools to produce an actual balsa wood or basswood model . The correct way to sand, seal, and paint their dragsters (the process is different for balsa wood than for basswood) is clearly illustrated to the students so they will avoid common finishing mistakes . Then, students find out how to interpret, record, and use the results of wind tunnel and ramp testing to improve a dragster’s performance . Closedcaptioned . Total time of five videos: 95 minutes . 57243 VHS Set of Five Videos* 59641 Dragster Series on DVD *Videos are also available individually. Visit www.shop-pitsco.com for information.
