CPD Workshops Day 1

Workshop 1 13:30pm-15:00pm each delegate has one choice from 3 workshops 1) Sports Coach UK – Engaging with Adults This workshop will provide delegates CPD on working and engaging adults in recreational football activity providing delegates with some useful tools to deliver your own football sessions and enthuse your peers at university.

Workshop 2 15:15pm-16:45pm each delegate has one choice from 3 workshops 1) Sport Science in the Professional game This workshop will provide an insight into Sport Science in the professional game. The workshop will be delivered from professionals that work within Football within the field of sport science.

2) Football and the Media Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a football journalist, reporting on some of the country’s biggest matches and interviewing some of the game’s most famous players? Alex Prior, Press and Communications Officer for The FA in Surrey and former sports reporter, will talk about his time working in football journalism and his route to breaking into the industry since graduating from Cardiff University in 2009. His work has been published in the Daily Telegraph, the Mirror, TheFA.com and on Sky Sports News.

2) Mars Just Play Mars Just Play is the FA brand for adult recreational football, In simple terms its” jumpers for goals posts” or “having a kick about with mates”. This workshop will provide you with an overview of the programme, teach you how to tailor your Mars Just Play sessions to meet the needs of the audience and provide you with all the information you need to plan and deliver your own Mars Just Play session or festivals at your University.

3) Employability in Football Want a career in football? Want to know the various roles that exist in the game? Well this workshop will provide you with an insight into the different career opportunities that currently exist within football and the skills and experience that are required to land one of these jobs. It will also explore the opportunities that exist for you to gain valuable work experience and provide you with an opportunity to ask questions to professional staff currently working in the industry.

3) Preparing for Interviews This workshop is designed to up skill and provide information on techniques for interviews for positions within the Sport industry. The session will explore the skills, behaviours and experience you will need to demonstrate during interview and will provide delegates the opportunity to prepare and practice interview techniques through role plays and Q&A.

Qualifications – Day 2 (Please pick one course)

FA Coaching disabled footballers (Sports Hall)

This course teaches coaches to apply coaching skills to meet the needs of players with different impairments. The course establishes basic communication skills for coaching disabled footballers, using appropriate terminology. Coaches are also advised on appropriate medical and safety considerations. Course Aims & Objectives The course is designed to give football coaches and teachers ideas and practices for the inclusion of disabled players in football sessions whether in mainstream or impairment specific sessions. Course Content Practical Involvement: Candidates will be encouraged to participate practically to maximise their opportunities for learning (however inability to participate will not prevent successful completion of the award) Course Pre-requisites 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football Course Duration Six hours Course Resources FA Coaching Disabled Footballers Course Candidate Pack - available via FA Learning Successful Completion Attendance only

FA Small Sided Referee Course (Outdoor pitch and Pavilion)

Over 1.2 million adults play Small Sided Football every week in over 28,000 organised Small Sided Football teams (Sport England Active People Survey 2010). However, given the diversity of small sided facilities and formats in this country use of these Laws in all circumstances is not mandatory; therefore, the revised Small Sided Laws allows the FA and County FA's to sanction other formats of Small Sided Football. Thus, proving the need for a course to train referees in the ways of the Small Sided game. Module 1 - Introduction This module will introduce some key aspects in the following: Laws of Small-Sided Football The role of the Referee ‘Respect’ training for referees Module 2 - Tutorial Element Theoretical and practical elements of the course will provide an introduction to: Managing game situations Signals & communication techniques Consider the skills required to control a game of small-sided football FA Safeguarding Children workshop (included in the course programme)

Module 3 - Examination An examination is used to establish theory & practical knowledge. Course Pre-requisite None

FA Coaching Futsal for Beginners (Sport Hall)

Learn about the UEFA and FIFA approved small sided game. On this course you will be taught the rules of Futsal and basic principles of attack and defence. Understand how to organise and coach Futsal and appreciate the fitness demands of the game. Course Aims & Objectives The aim of this course is to provide candidates with an understanding of the techniques and skills related to the game of Futsal. This course will help candidates organise and deliver basic Futsal practices. It will also provide candidates with an introduction to the structure of the game, the laws and the role Futsal can play in developing underlying skills and techniques. Course content Practical Involvement: Candidates will be encouraged to participate practically to maximise their opportunities for learning (however inability to participate will not prevent successful completion of the award). Course Pre-requisite 1st4sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football Successful Completion Attendance only
