GETTING STARTED:

Tell of a time in you childhood where you were caught “red handed” for doing something wrong. What was your reaction to being caught? Is anyone brave enough to tell a story of when you were caught “red handed” doing something wrong as an adult? We all have been caught doing something wrong, even as an adult, think about that time, was your reaction different than when you were a child? If so, how?

TAKE A LOOK AT THE BOOK:

Read 1 John 1:8-2:1 Why is it hard for us to admit we fail? Compare v.8 with v.10 what happens when we refuse to admit we fail?

How do we deceive ourselves about our own sin? What does that look like in our life? What happens when we confess our sins? Is John saying God HAS to forgive us? If not, then what is he saying? Do you think John is saying we can become so righteous that we no longer sin? Why or why not? Do you think John is setting ridiculously high standards? What is an advocate? What do they do? How does this apply to what Jesus does for us? On what basis does He advocate for us?

TAKE IT HOME:

Pastor Jeremy said “Real repentance is doing a 180 in your mind, attitude and behavior. What does that look like in your life? What sin is keeping your attention and you need to do a “180”? How can we maintain a lifestyle of repentance? (Prayer, Accountability, Time with God, Dependence on the Spirit of God)
