ONE SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT, MANY JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR DETROITERS Outreach event for Detroit-‐headquartered and Detroit-‐based businesses to support them in pursuing upcoming construction opportunities
DETROIT – Olympia Development of Michigan will host a Jobs Summit for Detroit-‐ headquartered and Detroit-‐based businesses interested in construction opportunities in the Detroit Sports and Entertainment District and its new arena. The event will be held on Thursday, August 28, at MotorCity Casino Hotel’s Sound Board. 9:00 a.m. Registration 10 -‐ 11 a.m. Overview of project scope, construction opportunities, participation requirements and the procurement process 11:30 a.m. -‐ 2 p.m. Resource fair with information on the certification process, joint venture agreements and hands-‐on business development support from: The Downtown Development Authority City of Detroit Human Rights Department Michigan Minority Business Development Center Detroit Employment Solutions Barton Malow-‐Hunt-‐White Heritage Development Services Olympia Development of Michigan At the event, Olympia Development will detail the organization’s plan for working with its partners to achieve 30 percent Detroit business participation and 51 percent Detroit resident-‐ worker participation in construction of the new Detroit arena. Additionally, representatives from other key stakeholder organizations will explain how Detroit-‐based companies can pursue upcoming construction opportunities and will also provide resources to help those businesses participate. “The new Detroit Sports and Entertainment District is a transformational project, and it will have a profoundly positive impact on the Detroit economy, as well as that of the region and state,” said Christopher Ilitch, President and CEO of Ilitch Holdings, Inc. “We are very focused on doing everything we can to ensure that Detroit businesses and resident-‐workers play a major role in the jobs that will build the arena, as well as the entire District.” Groundbreaking for the District will occur this fall. Office, retail and residential buildings – as well as the new arena – are scheduled to be complete by the summer of 2017. Construction of the arena and surrounding District is expected to generate at least $1.8B in total economic impact, 8,300 construction and construction-‐related jobs and 1,100 permanent jobs. More than $100M in income from the arena project alone is expected for Detroit residents, with significant additional income to be created through future private development. Olympia and its partners will host additional outreach events in the coming months to ensure Detroit-‐based and –headquartered businesses, Detroit workers, state of Michigan contractors and Michigan-‐based suppliers play a major role in construction of the District and arena.
