FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  Family & Youth President and CEO, Julio Galan, named to the   2017 Standards for Excellence® Ethics Standards Committee     (Lake Charles)‐ Julio Galan, President and CEO of Family & Youth Counseling Agency  (Family & Youth) has been elected to the National Ethics Standards Committee of the  Standards for Excellence Institute of Maryland, to advance nonprofit transparency and  accountability.     Galan has been the President and CEO of Family & Youth since 1997, and the President  and CEO of the Family Foundation since its inception in 2000. Family & Youth is  certified by the Standards for Excellence Institute.    The National Ethics Standards Committee is charged with overseeing the accreditation  and recognition program of the Standards for Excellence Institute.   Members of the Ethics Standards Committee are trained individuals responsible for evaluating  a nonprofit organization's application for compliance with the Standards for Excellence: An  Ethics and Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector. They serve on Committee as  volunteers, and typically have at least 10 years of management or governance experience working with nonprofit  organizations across a broad spectrum of areas. As volunteer leaders of the national certification process, National

Ethics Standards Committee Members main role and responsibilities include: 

 Reviewing and approving or denying all nonprofit applications for Standards for Excellence  accreditation, or Standards Basics Enhanced recognition.    Conducting periodic review of the content of the Standards for Excellence code.    Providing advice and guidance to Institute staff regarding application policies, procedures, and  processes.  The Standards for Excellence Institute aims to raise the level of accountability, transparency, and effectiveness  of all nonprofit organizations to foster excellence and inspire trust. The Standards for Excellence code provides  a framework and step‐by‐step guidelines to achieve a well‐managed and responsibly governed organization.  ###  Family & Youth  220 Louie Street, Lake Charles, LA  337‐436‐9533   www.fyca.org
