Oregon City Chamber endorses four for local races Four local candidates were recently endorsed by the Oregon City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for the November 8 Election. The Oregon City Chamber is non-partisan and makes these decisions without fear of retribution and supports candidates who are most closely aligned with the chamber’s objectives. “It is vital that the Oregon City Chamber be a voice for public policy that advances a prosperous business climate, job development and the interests of Chamber members and other businesses,” stated Chamber Director Amber Holveck. The following individuals have been endorsed by the Oregon City Chamber for the 2016 General Election: State House of Representatives District 39 - Representative Bill Kennemer State House of Representatives District 40 - Mark Meek Oregon City Commissioner Position 2 - Nancy Ide Oregon City Commissioner Position 4 - Renate Mengelberg Each candidate running for the above seats, whether endorsed or not, are applauded for their desire to serve our community and district. We hope that Chamber members and Oregon City voters consider these endorsements as they mark their ballots for the upcoming General Election. For more detailed information from each candidate, go to the Chamber’s website at www.oregoncity.org.

State House of Representatives District 39 - Representative Bill Kennemer Bill Kennemer has had a long history, since 1987, of business support and public service. We recognize how deeply he knows his district and the constituents that he serves. He is a proven “bridge builder” between business and labor and is always available to the public. State House of Representatives District 40 - Mark Meek Mark has provided a more engaged commitment to the broader community than his opponents through things like Relay for Life, senior homes, etc. as well as demonstrated leadership to the business community. We wish, however, that he would have been willing to make a stronger statement one way or the other on Measure 97. Oregon City City Commissioners, Position 2 and 4, respectively Nancy Ide and Renate Mengelberg, while each is unopposed, each has proven herself to be committed community leaders willing and able to do the homework necessary to lead our community. They are both open to the needs of business and very approachable. The Oregon City Chamber’s Government and Economic Affairs Committee (GEAC) offered no endorsement in the County Commission Chair election between Chair John Ludlow and Commissioner Jim Bernard, nor in the race between Commissioner Tootie Smith and Ken Humberston, challenger. We wish to thank Jim Bernard and Ken Humberston for completing our questionnaires in their respective races. Additionally, no consensus was reached in the race between Paul Espe and Frank O’Donnell, for City Commissioner, Position 3. ###
