FOUNDATION PROGRAM FOR MEDICINE NIC - YOUR PATHWAY TO HEALTH AND MEDICINE DEGREE PROGRAMS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE For students wanting to study the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine, the Foundation Program for Medicine at NIC provides the necessary pathway. The Foundation Program for Medicine consists of eight academic courses from which students will be required to achieve an Average Mark of 90%. If they achieve 90%, they are invited to attend interviews and online testing conducted by the School of Medicine and Public Health.

If students meet the minimum requirement of the NIC Program and also the School of Medicine and Public Health’s assessment, they will be considered for a place in the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine. It is a two-step process.

Approximately 20 - 25 students are accepted into the Foundation Program for Medicine each year and it is taught as its own separate class. Over the last five intakes, NIC has enrolled 110 students, and 51 NIC graduates have been accepted into the medical program. If you are interested in applying, you can submit an online application through the NIC website and we can advise you if you are eligible. We can then refer you to a genuine education agent who will help you with the application and the visa process. The next intake will be April 2020.

FACULTY OF HEALTH AND MEDICINE NIC offers the Foundation Program (FP) pathway to all of these degree programs at the University of Newcastle in Australia. The Foundation Program consists of eight academic courses that can be done over two or three trimesters starting in February or July. Students will be required to achieve the required Average Mark listed below for entry into Year One of the following programs.

(Average Mark required 78) • 85% employed within four months of graduating1 • Top 10 in Australia2 • Offers the Medical/Health Professions major to prepare students for postgraduate health and medicine studies

(Average Mark required 84) • 95% employed within four months of graduating1 • 1,000+ hours of clinical placements • On-campus 'virtual house' to assess homes of people with arthritis, dementia and spinal cord injuries.

MEDICAL RADIATION SCIENCE (HONOURS) (DIAGNOSTIC RADIOTHERAPY)

ORAL HEALTH THERAPY

(Average Mark required 90) • 96% employed within four months of graduating1 • 42 weeks of clinical placements • Campus facilities include CT, MRI, ultrasound, angiography and mammography machines

(Average Mark required 84) • The only oral health therapy degree in the state of NSW that qualifies students to treat children and adults. • 500+ hours of hands-on practice throughout your degree • On-campus oral health clinic and simulation laboratory, featuring 17 dental chairs and life-like manikins

(Average Mark required 90) • 99% employed within four months of graduating1 • 1,000+ hours of experience through clinical placements in public and private centres • On-campus laboratories outfitted with modern physiotherapy equipment.

PODIATRY (Average Mark required 78) • This three-year accelerated Bachelor of Podiatry degree will get you career-ready, faster than your peers • 1,000+ hours of hands-on practice in a variety of health care settings • Third year students have the opportunity to work as a podiatry assistant during their final year of study
