Make It True (Large Group, 20 minutes) Historyteller Greets children at the door as music plays. CG: Welcome Slide (“Tell Me Who”) Stop music once all classes are in and on a line.

Worship What You Need: Paperclip “Memory Verse Card” in your Bible at Ecclesiastes 4:9.” HISTORYTELLER: “Hello, friends! It’s so good to see you! I’m super excited because we’re going to be celebrating our good friends. Can you point to one of your good friends? (Pause.) Yes! All of our good friends are right here. And guess who gave you those good friends! God did! When I say, ‘Who gives you good friends?’ you say, CG: Bottom Line Slide ‘God gives me good friends!’ Let’s try it. Who gives you good friends?” CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] “God gives me good friends!” HISTORYTELLER: “Great job! You guys are awesome! Let’s sing our new song!” SFX: “Better Together” “What incredible singers you are! This is going to be a fantastic month! HISTORYTELLER: “That’s right! [Bottom Line] God gives me good friends! In fact, our memory verse tells us that doing things with friends is best! Let’s learn it. CG: Memory Verse Slide Watch me say it and do the motions, and then you can do it with me. ‘Two (hold up two fingers) people (touch your shoulders) are better (raise your arms overhead to form a circle) than one (hold up one finger). They can help (pound one fist on top of the other) each other (touch the person next to you on the shoulder) in everything they do’ (raise your hands overhead and jump up), Ecclesiastes 4:9. (Open your hands like a book.) Let’s try that together.” CHILDREN and HISTORYTELLER: “‘Two (hold up two fingers) people (touch your shoulders) are better (raise your arms overhead to form a circle) than one (hold up one finger). Bible What You Need: Prepared “J and D Signs” necklaces; a box with the following props: 1 bathrobe, a loaf of bread, a belt, a toy sword, and a plastic bow and arrow set What You Say: HISTORYTELLER: (Enter with box of props.) “Today, I have an awesome Bible Truth about friends! Did you know that the Bible has lots of stories of friendship? (Pause.) It’s true! And everything in the Bible is true! Raise your hands if you have some good friends. (Pause as kids raise hands.) Me too! I have some good friends. Do you have a best friend? (Pause.) On the count of three, I want you to call out your best friend’s name. Ready? (Pause.) One, two, three! (Pause.) Wow! That’s a lot of friends. Did you know that God gives you good friends? (Pause.) It’s true. That’s what our Bible Truth

today is all about. Do you want to hear it? (Pause.) Great! I need two Small Group Leaders to come onstage and help me out. (Select two SGLs to come onstage.) “Hey, guys. Thanks for helping us out today. In our Bible Truth, we’re going to talk about two best friends named Jonathan and David. This ‘J’ is for Jonathan. (Place the ‘J’ sign around the first SGL’s neck.) And the ‘D’ is for David. (Place the ‘D’ sign around the second SGL’s neck.) You guys look great! “Now, what you might not know is that Jonathan was the son of a king. King Saul was his dad. So that made him a prince. (Give Jonathan the robe, belt, sword, and toy bow and arrows to hold.) “David worked for King Saul and his family. So David, why don’t you kneel down? (Pause as David kneels.) Great. But when David wasn’t working, he and Jonathan would hang out just like you hang out with your best friend. Go ahead and stand up, David. (Pause as David stands back up.) “David and Jonathan had the best time laughing. Go ahead and laugh, guys. And they would eat together. (Hand the loaf of bread to David.) Don’t you want to share some of that with your best friend? (Pause.) Go ahead. (Pause while David shares some bread with Jonathan.) “When Jonathan would tell David something important, he knew that David wouldn’t tell anyone else. They truly were best buds. They shared everything. Jonathan gave David the robe off his back. (Pause as Jonathan gives his robe to David.) And he gave him his sword. (Pause as Jonathan gives his sword to David.) And he gave him his bow. (Pause as Jonathan gives his bow to David.) Jonathan even gave David his belt! (Pause as Jonathan gives his belt to David.) “These two were definitely good friends. (Point to David.) David loved Jonathan. (Point to Jonathan.) And Jonathan loved David. They both wanted to honor God and they knew that God had given them each other as friends. Our friends are a gift from God. (To the two SGL volunteers.) Did you guys know that? (Pause.) Who gives you good friends? CG: Bottom Line Slide God gives me good friends. How about a big round of applause for our two awesome volunteers? (Pause.) You can put everything back in the box and head back to your seats. “Thanks SO much for your help today. Friends are a gift from God. Who gives you good friends? [Bottom Line] God gives me good friends. Who gives you good friends?”

All those best friends whose names you yelled out earlier are all gifts from God. He gave you those friends. Do you like to play with your best friend? (Pause.) Absolutely. Does he or she make you laugh? (Pause.) Probably. Do you like to share with them? (Pause.) I hope so! God gives (point to kids) you and you and you and you and you and me good friends and I’m SO glad. What an awesome thing for God to give to us. Exit Sketch CG: Exit Sketch Video Offering and Prayer Music Plays as the offering container is passed around SFX: “How Great is our God?” Bring volume down to signify prayer time. HISTORYTELLER: “I think we should pray and tell God thank you for all of our good friends! “God, thank You for the life of David and Jonathan and the awesome friendship they shared. We know that it was a gift from You. Thank You for giving each of us good friends too! Life is way more fun with friends! Help us to be a good friend this week and to remember that all our friends are gifts from You. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.” Dismiss “Well, that’s it for today.
