CHURCH IN THE CITY

What is Church in the City?

One of MDPC’s Advantage Goals is to serve together in the city one Sunday a year. Outreach is an important part of our life as a church family, and we want to serve our city well for Christ. This will be a day for us to worship God and to serve those whom Christ has called us to serve. For 2018, we chose Houston Food Bank (HFB) because another MDPC Advantage Goal involves an initiative to fight childhood food insecurity in Houston.

What is the schedule for the Food Bank? 8:00 AM 8:30 AM 12:00 PM 12:45 PM

Arrive at MDPC; check-in, and board your pre-assigned bus Depart MDPC for Houston Food Bank Leave HFB (Worship will be facilitated via video during the return trip to MDPC.) Arrive at MDPC (pick up your lunch - stay and eat lunch at church, or take it to-go)

How will we get to Houston Food Bank?

Each family/group will be assigned to a specific charter bus. On the bus, you’ll complete a waiver for HFB, and receive specific instructions about that morning’s service.

What are the age requirements for Houston Food Bank?

Children must be at least six years old to volunteer at Houston Food Bank. For families with children younger than six, we will offer service projects for you and your kids at MDPC that morning. Please note that an adult must stay at MDPC with children 3-5. You will participate in the activities together as a family. Childcare will be provided for children 2 and under (for those staying at MDPC or traveling to HFB).

What is the schedule for those staying here at MDPC? 8:00-8:30 AM 8:30-8:45 AM 10:45-11:15 AM 11:15 AM-12:00 PM

Arrive at MDPC; check-in at the Chapel and receive your name tag Instructions in the Chapel Worship (via video in the Chapel) Lunch

What about lunch? Please eat breakfast before you arrive; lunch will be provided after your service projects. (See schedules for HFB and MDPC).

What is the cost?

The cost is $10 per person, which helps cover the bus, your lunch, and/or the mission projects done at MDPC. Scholarships are available! We do not want the cost to prevent anyone from participating.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes that include pants, closed-toe shoes, and a sleeved shirt. No dangling jewelry or handbags are allowed in the work area. Only bring items that will fit in your pockets.

What will we be doing?

At the Food Bank, we will be divided into different areas with different jobs. You may be sorting food, bagging items, or cleaning. It all depends on the needs of the day. Those who stay back at MDPC will make sandwiches for Kids’ Meals, bag beans & rice for MDPC’s Fuente Food Pantry, and participate in some other mission projects.

Do I need to preregister?

Yes! Please register at churchinthecity.mdpc.org, for both the HFB trip and for the projects at MDPC. On the bus, you will be asked to complete a waiver for Houston Food Bank.

What if I have mobility issues?

If you have mobility issues that preclude you from traveling to HFB, you are invited to participate in the projects at MDPC. If you have mobility issues, but are able to go to HFB, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs.

I still have more questions. Please contact Janell at [email protected].
