What You Need: No supplies needed What You Do: See how many kids in your group can wiggle their ears, curl their tongue, and touch their toes without bending their knees. Ask them if there are any other special “talents” they can do and would like to demonstrate to the group. What You Say: “All of us have special talents, but we don’t all have the same special talents, do we? God made each of us unique. [Transition] Let’s go to Large Group to learn how God wants us to be unique and be a good friend.” Lead your group to the Large Group area. 10:15 Survey Says! SUNDAY MORNINGS

October 7, 2018, Week 1 Grade: Kinder

KIDS: “… the way you want to be treated!” HOST: “That’s right! Friendship is [Recycle] treating others the way you want to be treated. And that’s not always easy, and you’ve got to work TOGETHER. (Pause.) I mean, think about it. Sometimes we hurt each other’s feelings, or we want other people to do things OUR way. But real friendship means putting your friends FIRST! “Real friendship is like our new theme verse for this month, Proverbs 17:17. Check this out. CG: Memory Verse Slide “‘A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.’ “Man. That’s good stuff. You guys say it with me!” KIDS and HOST: “‘A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.’” HOST: “That’s what our Bible Truth is all about. I say we welcome [Historyteller’s Name] to tell us more.” Host exits. Historyteller enters. SETTING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: “Our Bible Truth today is about a really important part of friendship—accepting people. That’s right: [Impress] friends accept each other! “We’ve been talking about friendship and what it means to treat others the way we want to be treated. And each week we’ve had a different verse that helps show us what it means to be a friend. “Today we’re going to look at a really cool verse from Paul’s letter to the Romans. It’s Romans 12:16. Listen to this. (Open the Bible to Romans 12:16 and read.) ‘Agree with each other. Don’t be proud. Be willing to be a friend of people who aren’t considered important. Don’t think that you are better than others.’ (NIrV) “I have a video here that I want you to watch and then we’re going to talk about it. Be watching for good friend things.” CG: 252 Movie WRAPPING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH “Remember that verse we talked about a minute ago? This is what Paul was talking about. He was telling the Romans to be a friend to people who may not seem important. He was reminding them not to think they were better than others. He wanted them to accept people who might be different. “Listen to this awesome verse that also comes from Paul’s letter, a little bit later on. (Open the Bible to Romans 15:7 and read.) ‘Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.’ (NIV) CG: Week 1 Verse

“Even if someone is different—even if we’re not sure we have anything in common with someone—we should accept that person and treat them the way we want to be treated. Because [Impress] friends accept each other.” WRAPPING UP THE BIBLE TRUTH HISTORYTELLER: “Now, here’s what Paul meant when he wrote, ‘just as Christ accepted you.’ God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to be our Savior—to take the punishment for the wrong things we do—so we could have a relationship with God forever! That’s what God has done for us. “And that’s why it’s so important for us to accept others—to treat them like they’re important, even if they’re different from us. Because when we show them love, we’re showing everyone how amazing God’s love really is. HISTORYTELLER: “Awesome! Let’s pray.” Pray HISTORYTELLER: “God, thank You for making each one of us with our own unique personality and interests. Thank You for giving us the chance to celebrate those differences and show friendship by accepting each other. It’s so amazing that You chose to accept US by sending Jesus to be our Savior. Please help us to accept the people around us. Please give us the courage to see past what’s on the outside and get to know others for what they’re really like on the inside. We want to accept others like You’ve accepted us. We love You! We ask these things in Jesus’ name, amen.” “If you have an offering you can bring that on up now.” Historyteller exits as Host enters. CG: 252 Outro Wk 1 Closer “It’s so easy for us to look at how someone looks and think we know everything about them. But you never know—maybe the guy who always seems so serious about school also knows a ton about baseball. Maybe it turns out that it’s really fun to play video games with him. Or you’d never know that the girl who practices swimming every morning is also an awesome singer or maybe she’s really good at art. “There’s so much more to people than we might think at first. God made us all different, and He wants us to accept those differences. He doesn't want those differences to keep us apart. God created friendship, and He knows that we’re better friends when we accept each other. CG: Bottom Line Slide “Say this with me: [Impress] friends accept each other.” KIDS and HOST: [Impress] “Friends accept each other.”

Friend Request Accepted Bible: Friend Request Accepted (Accept one another) • Romans 12:16 (Supporting: Romans 15:7) Bottom Line: Friends accept each other. Memory Verse: “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” Proverbs 17:17, NIV Life App: Friendship—treating others the way you want to be treated. Basic Truth: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

Groups: Creating a Safe Place to Connect (10 minutes) Create a safe place to connect and learn how the Bible Truth applies to real life experiences, through interactive activities and discussion questions. 9:00 & 11:30 All the Children of the World What You Need: “Jesus Loves the Children” Activity Pages, crayons, Bible What You Do: Seat the group in a circle and place the markers in the middle. Give each child a copy of the Activity Page. Encourage the kids to color one child in the picture to match how they look today (hair color, clothing, etc.). Then, after they’ve colored “themselves” in, everyone should pass their paper to the left and color in another kid on that paper. (They can choose a different child in the picture than they chose originally.) Continue this until all the kids have colored on all the pages. What You Say: “Now all of our pictures have our entire group on them! Let’s find some things that are the same on every kid in the picture. (Allow kids to say things like, “They all have noses.”) There are a lot of differences, too, like the colors of skin or clothes. [Apply] We are ALL different, but we are all part of this group, and we accept each other, because [Impress] friends accept each other! (Open Bible to Romans 12:16.) Our Bible verse today says: ‘Agree with each other. Don’t be proud. Be willing to be a friend of people who aren’t considered important. Don’t think that you are better than others.’ That reminds me of something that happened to me.” [Personalize] Share about a time you were in a group with a lot of people who had a ton of differences but you all were willing to be friends and accept each other.

10:15 Connect Tag (Play as a Class-wide activity) What You Need: Bible What You Do: Open your Bible to Proverbs 17:17 and read it aloud to your group. Say it together several times. Then begin a game of tag. Select a child to be “It” and say the verse aloud. Then, whenever It tags someone, that person must link arms with It and say the verse with him, before they both chase the others together. The game ends when all the kids are linked and everyone has said the verse. What You Say: “It was pretty fun to get linked up and run around, and that last link was a challenge! It really shows us that everyone can see how great it is when [Impress] friends accept each other.”

All Service Times

Pray and Dismiss (10 minutes) What You Need: No supplies needed What You Do: Seat everyone in pairs, according to some difference between them (those wearing sneakers vs. sandals, someone who likes chocolate with someone who prefers vanilla, basketball players with ballerinas, etc.) What You Say: “Repeat this prayer after me: (make sure to pause after every few words) ‘God, thank You for my friend, [name], who is different than I am.’ [Apply] God, we thank You for our differences and that we can accept each other as friends because Jesus accepts us. Amen. Let’s say our Bottom Line one more time: [Impress] Friends accept each other.”

Give each child a GodTime card. Pass out Parent CUE cards as adults arrive for pick-up.
