Lake Charles—Family & Youth Counseling Agency (Family & Youth) recieved a $95,000 donation from the Friends of Shannon Cox to benefit the Shannon Cox Counseling Center (SCCC). Funds were raised during the Derby for Dollars event held May 3rd at the Stables of Lebocage in Lake Charles.

The SCCC provides a wide range of constructive and life-changing services in the form of counseling, consultation and education to benefit individuals and families in Southwest Louisiana. In 2011, recognizing a vital need in the community, the center started offering grief counseling services for children who have lost a significant person in their lives. The center provides a safe place for children to express their emotions and learn that their feelings are natural. Children grieve differently than adults, and the center works with each child individually

and in a group setting to help them build a bridge on their road to recovery. Since 2011, the center has grief counseling services to over 300 children and their families.

Family & Youth, a United Way agency, has been serving the community since 1970. It is the belief of Family & Youth, that all individuals possess the ability to solve their own challenges and live full and healthy lives when support is available. It is the mission of Family & Youth to provide affordable and professional support through programs and services dedicated to the advocacy, counseling, and education for the people of Southwest Louisiana. Our effort and commitment to building family values will guarantee a stable and stronger community.
