One Sunday years ago, I saw our founding pastor, Rev. George Pearce, walking through the church and up and down the stairs. I jokingly asked if he was practicing climbing Jacob’s ladder because that was the sermon topic that day. George said that on Sunday mornings he walks throughout the church praying over everyone who will be here and those that will lead them. He also said that when it comes to Broadmoor Church, her community, and her members, he prays without ceasing. This sparked within me the impor tance of prayer. Prayer is a precedent before any ministry can begin. Prayer enlightens me to see the needs of others. All of life is meant to be a prayer, just as all of life is also meant to be an act of worship. What would our church family be like if everyone prayed without ceasing for one another? As we walk through and around the church, may we be constantly praying for the pastors, the Sunday school classes, the worship services, the children’s ministry, the youth ministry, and our missions,. Prayer is planting. Each prayer is like a seed that gets planted in the ground. It may disappear for a season, but it eventually bears fruit that blesses future generations. Broadmoor will soon celebrate its 75th anniversary. Our church was formed and shaped by the prayers of so many dedicated saints and servants. May we continue to be in prayer, keeping in step with the Spirit so that we can continue to heal, bless, and serve others for many more years to come.

a prayer Dear God, The “doubting Thomas” keeps showing up-doubts about my choices and decisions, doubts about my abilities. I find myself wondering why. Why am I constantly questioning myself? Is it because I feel inadequate, not good enough? Do I think that people will disapprove of me? Doubts and insecurities pervade my life, and self-doubt often prevails. Help me, God, to hold on to my faith in you and to the faith you have in me – faith to get me through the times of doubt and questioning. Help me to see myself as you see me. Amen.

Sign up Youth for CSM | July 6-12 This summer the high school youth will travel to Houston, TX, to serve with the Center for Student Missions (CSM). They will be working with the homeless and impoverished community and experiencing a life different from our own. Every day the group will work with two different ministries in downtown Houston, home of the country’s 3rd highest homeless population. They will also get to truly experience the city by eating different local and ethnic foods and touring local parks and attractions. If your student is in high school and interested in going on the trip, contact Brandon Winningham at brandon@ broadmoorumc.org. There are limited spots, which will be filled from highest grade to lowest grade (senior-freshman).

Weekend of the Cross | July 24-27 Weekend of the Cross registration is now open. Turn in a $50 deposit to register, and the total cost is $200 per student. Weekend of the Cross is an excellent local mission opportunity for Shrevepor t where hundreds of youth par ticipate in building wheelchair ramps and painting houses for lower income neighborhoods. Youth will stay on the Centenary College campus and par ticipate in worship and group discussion each night with youth from churches all across Nor thwest Louisiana. If your student is interested in the trip, contact Brandon Winningham at [email protected]. Adult team-leaders are also needed.

No Youth on May 4 There will be no UMY this Sunday, May 4. Join us at Burnt Offerings from 5-7 pm in the gym instead!

Youth Stock Sale | April & May This year's Youth Ministry Stock Sale fundraiser will be held April 28-May 2. The funds raised will pay for the majority of our high school mission trip with the Center for Student Missions (CSM) to Houston, TX, in July. With CSM, our students will serve inner city Houston by working with several homeless and urban ministries. This will be more than a summer mission trip because our students will learn and gain experience in relational ministry so that they can come back home to help build the kingdom locally. These students will experience a life changing week with CSM but to get there we need your help! During Stock Sale you will receive a phone call from one of our par ticipating students asking you to purchase "Stock" in our ministry. Each share of stock is $20 and you can purchase as many as you feel called. You can also buy stock directly from the church office. Our goal is to sell 300 shares of stock to cover the cost of CSM. Stockholders will be invited to a dinner held in their honor for the suppor t given to our summer mission projects. At the dinner, stockholders will hear stories and updates from CSM and Weekend of the Cross. We hope you will help us fund our trip to Houston. These students and the work they will do building the kingdom will be wor th your investment!
