From Our Interim Pastor... Charlie Brown once said, “The secret of happiness is having three things to look forward to, and nothing to dread!” I believe he has something to tell us at FBC, Plano. Each week I have the opportunity to meet with our staff and to look at where we have been and what is ahead of us. These are great times in our church. I believe God will use our church in a great way in Plano, Texas. The question is: What part will you play in that future? The church is described in a lot of ways in the New Testament. One of those is in 1 Peter 2. Peter reminds us that we are the living stones that make up the building of the church on the foundation that is Jesus Christ. What a privilege it is for us to be a part of that enterprise. God has allowed us to be a part of this great undertaking called the church. What does that mean practically? Several years ago a pastor friend shared with me what one of his deacons said to him. He said, “Preacher, major events of my life have happened in and around this church. This is where I came for my first public outing as a baby. This was the place where I heard about Jesus. It was this place where I professed my faith in Christ and was baptized. I got married in this church. My kids were dedicated to the Lord in this church. I saw my kids come to know the hope of Christ and be baptized in this church. This is where we gathered for my dad’s funeral as we celebrated his life and his homegoing.” Major events happen here. Is church your place of happiness? Is it where great things happen to you and for you? Are you one of the living stones that make up FBC, Plano? Join us for the great things that are happening here. Nothing to dread. See you Sunday.

Dr. Steve Vernon, Associate Executive Director for Texas Baptists Interim Pastor
