God’s mission for Temple Baptist Church is to love Him fully and follow Him faithfully .

From The Senior Pastor Dr. Reggie Bridges I am a teacher. I realize that many professional educators are horrified to know that I claim to practice their craft. And I don’t blame them! The Mississippi accent alone gives reason for pause. Yet, I believe that God has called me to teach. My task is to take the authoritative truth (i.e. Scripture), explain it, and apply it to a local group of believers. Without the teaching component, preaching falls short of its objective. As Dr. James Travis repeatedly reminded his students, “Preaching without teaching is just hollering.” Moreover, the Lord has called me to be the primary teacher for my children. Leslie and I have a responsibility to instruct them in moral and practical knowledge. Like Solomon, we cultivate within our children a “fear of the Lord.” Thankfully, our church family joins with us in this effort. The church does not take the place of parents; rather, it compliments our work. Our Vacation Bible School next week is an example of this partnership. I encourage you to bring your children and grandchildren. Simply put, I am a teacher. And I love what I do! I love standing before you and opening God’s textbook, the Bible. Whether it is from Proverbs, Acts, or 2 Kings, His truth can be found. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share it with you. I am also grateful that He allows me to pour into my children’s lives daily. Although often overwhelming, it is a rewarding journey! And as always, I am blessed to know that He continues to teach all of us as we grow in Him. See you Sunday!

Vacation Bible School! That’s what will be happening around Temple Baptist Church next week, June 1620. I have been involved in VBS for over 50 years as a church staff member and almost all of my life. My dear Mother worked in Vacation Bible School every year, so I have gone every year since I was one. Who knows, I may own the record for attendance in VBS! I will be working with fifth graders again this year. Please be praying for all the workers and all the children, entering Kindergarten-6th Grade. The Family Night program will be held on Friday night, June 20, in the Sanctuary at 6 p.m. Come enjoy a program of music that the children will be learning during the week at VBS. Because of VBS, we are moving our regular monthly Senior Adult Luncheon from the third Tuesday to the fourth Tuesday. It will be held in Fellowship Hall at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24. The crowds continue to be great. The food is always delicious. The fellowship is so enjoyable. The program for this month will feature a teenage pianist, Carlie Ann Toliver. This young lady has won all kinds of awards. I am excited that she is coming to present a program for us. Invite someone to join you for our luncheon on Tuesday, June 24. I now have the itinerary for the trip to London, Paris, and Normandy. In a few days, I will have the dates (probably mid to late April, 2015) and the airline fares. When that is finalized, we will print the brochures and begin sign-up for the trip. We had a great group of folks and a great time on our recent one day trip. Be watching for information about another “one” day trip soon! Brother Dale

The Family Life Center will be closed next week, June 16-20, 8 a.m. to Noon. No Family Night Meal, Wednesday, June 18, due to VBS. Bible Study will be held in the Chapel at 6 p.m.

Youth & Recreation Ministry John Nugent

The summer is off to a fantastic start for our Student Ministry! Our first big trip was to San Francisco for our Senior Mystery Trip. We took nine seniors to see the Golden Gate Bridge, Muir Woods, Chinatown, Sausalito, Cable Cars, Giants game, and much more! One of our favorite nights was spent with Ben Pilgreen and his family. Ben is the pastor of EPIC church in San Francisco, which he and his team planted about four years ago. Our students were able to hear about how God called the Pilgreens to San Francisco and how God was using them to impact the city for His glory. Hearing from Ben only helped to encourage our students to be a part of the very big things that God is doing all over our nation! Our next adventure was to Seeker Springs with 19 students going into 7 th and 8th Grades who are transitioning into our Student Ministry, transitioning in their schools, and transitioning in so many other areas of their lives. They were able to see how God is with them during these transitions and has very big ways that He wants to use them at this important stage of life. We had a whole lot of fun getting to know one another and giving our newest students experiences plugging them in to what God is doing through our Student Ministry after only being a youth for about one week! June 21-27 will be our mission trip to Indianapolis! 40 of us will travel on long van rides to have the opportunity to be a part of what God is doing through church planters in Indianapolis. We will provide Vacation Bible School for one church plant and also help with several work projects around the city as we share the gospel. Part of our training for this mission trip requires these students to help with VBS here at Temple. So, when you see a teenager helping out next week with VBS, make sure you give them lots of encouragement, and let them know you’re excited about what God will be doing through them in Indianapolis! We also still have some room for students going into 9th -12th Grades to sign up for our High School Retreat to Camp Baldwin near Gulf Shores, Alabama, July 24-27. Check out our website, www.templebcstudents.org for more information and how to sign up!
