FTDI Adapter USB Controller - Micro Center SKU 206052; UPC 618996978113 Mini USB FTDI Basic Breakout Module features a standard serial interface, compatible with all kinds of Arduino and other controllers. LEDs indicate power, send (TX), and receive (RX) allowing for visual status of the module and data transfer activity. Switch selectable for 3.3 V or 5 V signal supply (changes TXD, DTR output; CTS, RXD input levels) Pin (socket) output is silkscreened on the module: GND - Ground CTS - Clear-To-Send (input status; 3.3/5v switch selectable) 5V - 5 volts DC (output; powered by USB! Not selectable by switch.) TXD - Transmit Data (3.3/5v switch selectable) RXD - Receive Data (3.3/5v switch selectable) DTR - Data-Terminal-Ready (output status; can be used to trigger reset on Arduino; 3.3/5v switch selectable.) Socket configuration allows FT232 module to be connected directly to an Arduino Mini controller for programming and/or monitoring. FTDI documentation & datasheet: http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/ICs/FT232R.htm FTDI drivers: http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm (also supported directly by Windows Update) When connected to a USB port under Windows, the New Hardware Wizard should trigger a search for drivers for the device. If not previously installed, this should search Windows Update for a drivers that match the hardware ID of the module...

With the Microsoft signed driver downloaded and installed, the module will appear in device manager as a new COM Port. (Watch the driver installation dialogue or check device manager to identify the port number assigned to the module. You will need that information to establish communication between the system and the module or device connected to it -- i.e. Arduino Pro Mini.)
