10.2 Additional Considerations

It is important that you order this option before shipment of the pool in order to avoid excessive shipping costs related to transporting a single piece of this size, girth, weight, and packaging. Please notify one of our design professionals if you require additional bracing on your step for special applications. Very important: If you are planning on installing these stairs in a pool where the optional deep-end has been selected, please be sure that the dimensions of your pit can accommodate the step. The bottom step of the stairs must rest on the regular depth floor of the pool. In other words, if you are installing the stairs at the front left of the pool, make sure that the "F" dimension on the Deep-End Liner Specification form (refer to Tech Bulletin #2 - p.7) is at least 60". Similarly, if you have selected the rear right of the pool for placement of the stairs, verify that dimension "G" is at least 60". An alternate method of installing the stairs is to increase the width of the “H” dimension to 25" for a front left stair installation. Increasing the “J” dimension to 25" will allow for placement of the stairs in the rear right corner. Two people are needed to handle the steps due to their size, weight, and configuration. Enclosed is the Hand Rail. Be sure to position the Hand Rail plates a few inches outside the Retractable Security Cover track to allow the retractable cover wheel to pass the mounting plate, but close enough for the Hand Rail to be used comfortably with the stairs. If using a screw gun while assembling the stairs, use a low torque setting to prevent stripping the plastic.

10.3 Instructions a. Assembly of Full Depth Stairs

1) Place the stair treads so that they lay on the apron, as seen in figure 1. Place tread support (A) on apron as shown. Secure the support to apron using fifteen #6 x 5/8'' screws. 2) Lay the stair treads upside down so that you can see the PVC angles, as seen in figure 2. Place tread support (B) on stairs as shown. Secure support to angle brackets using twelve #10 x 1/2'' screws. 3) Secure cross support (C) to tread supports (A) and (B) by using four #10 x 1/2'' screws as shown in figure 3.

Fig. 3 b. Installation of stairs into pool

1) Ensure liner and benches are installed first. Pool should have water over the top of the benches in order to install the stairs. Lay the stairs on its side on the edge of the pool coping. With one person in the pool, lower the steps into the pool. CAUTION! Be careful not to damage the pool liner. 2) Position the steps in the front left or rear right corner of the pool. Guide the step to the bottom and gently fit the step cut-out against the bench. 3) With the stairs positioned on the bench and tight against the end and side pool walls, fasten the top vertical flange to the front pool wall using the 1" self-drilling screws (screw through the liner). Put a few damp paper towels underneath the holes while doing this in order to catch the metal chips that will result. Please let us know if any additional information would be helpful, and do not hesitate to call our Customer Service Department at (800) 910-2714.
