A LETTER FROM PASTOR MIKE Mike Patz, Lead Pastor

D

ear church family,

I love the book of Acts. It reminds me of what happens when ordinary people become passionate followers of Jesus Christ: They turn their world upside down for the glory of God. They experience firsthand the prayer “on earth as it is in heaven.” They fall in love with Jesus and serve the world He loves. That is our vision. And that is why I don’t want us to waste our lives building a church that doesn’t even need to exist. I wish I could tell you about every life that was touched in 2016. Only God knows the details, but we put this report in your hands as a snapshot. Hundreds turned to Jesus in repentance, thousands heard the Gospel, millions of dollars were given, scores of children were mentored, and three of our very own were sent out into the global mission field. Do you realize that neighborhoods were penetrated, struggling schools raised their grades, displaced refugees were cared for, slaves were rescued, civil rights were restored, gang violence was addressed, sick bodies were healed, spiritual gifts were activated, prisoners were visited, microchurches

multiplied, and disciple-makers were reproduced? Some of the greatest moments of the year happened at our corporate prayer meetings on our knees as God manifested His power and love. This report is part of our accountability. It’s painful for me to watch so many religious organizations abuse power and squander resources, which is why we are fiercely committed to operating above reproach, and bringing you reports like this one. I hope it brings you joy to see that, outside of the Hub nearly half of everything we spent last year went to missions, the poor, and churchplanting. Take some time to read through these pages and imagine. Ask God for His heart. Ask Him to make us one. Ask Him to keep our hearts pure. Ask for our love to abound more and more. Ask that we will make disciples who make disciples unto the ends of the earth. More than ever, I call us to believe. I love you with the affection of Jesus, Pastor Mike

Wednesday of each month at 11:30am in Auditorium A at the NW Campus. This time of fellowship starts with a group potluck lunch. Following lunch, there is a program of music, videos, and live speakers giving relevant teachings. All ages are invited to attend and learn from the wiser ones in our Faith Family! It’s an incredible time of authentic community, and growth in the Lord!

“OASIS is conducive to faith, fun, and fellowship ! I love when younger people come because we have generational diversity. It provides a platform where ourseniors can share their giftings; I love seeing them come alive in this way. We also get to stay informed about church direction and mission, develop lastingfriendships and continue to develop spiritually and actively. “ – Tom Brenneman, Generations Pastor “I love OASIS so much. All the people are so warm and friendly. I like the testimonies, stories, and teachings, and always learn something. I like everything about OASIS! It is absolutely wonderful and I never want it to stop, I love it. Pastor Tom and his wife Martha are doing a great job!” – Rosalie Bond PAGE

MICROCHURCH

“WE SEE CONGREGATIONS THAT LOVE GOD WITH MORE THAN SUNDAYS AND CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH MORE THAN WORDS.”

“We see churches of real disciples...people that love God as Father, follow him as Rabbi, and honor him as King...”

J M

oining a microchurch has been the most impactful thing in my life as it gives me a chance to experience a community of others who love Jesus and thus I could learn from, be submerged in, encouraged and supported by in my walk with Jesus throughout the week.” – Leigh Ann Skurupey

T

aking our cue from the early church, we embrace the Acts 2 both/and approach to church. In the book of Acts we encounter a community of disciples who met together in both the large group gathering (“in the temple”) and in the small group gathering (“from house to house”). “Church” was both organized and scheduled as well as fluid and spontaneous. It was not limited to weekends in a building. Discipleship was not limited to once a week in a home. These happened every time believers came together in the name and power of Jesus. It is vital to recognize that these first believers gathered PAGE

8

constantly and made use of any and every environment to do so. While we have been heavily influenced by the house church and organic church movements, we do not share their disregard for the largegroup gathering. Thus, we utilize large groups to bring the apostle’s teaching, clarify vision, stir faith, build culture, worship passionately, tell our stories, etc. Yet we recognize that there are so many parts of discipleship that will never occur within the macrochurch alone. We need the microchurch expression. Microchurches are where the saints gather intimately and equip more specifically to do the work of the ministry and “be” church. Microchurches are where people are personally

y husband and I really wanted to start attending a microchurch together. Someone told us about their microchurch and once we started going, we got plugged in and right away it felt like family.” – Robin Gregory

pastored. There are many gifts that do not have a place at a weekend gathering, but are vital and essential for the church to be fully expressed in a microchurch setting. There are many prayers to be prayed, specific needs to be met, burdens to be shared, opinions to be shared, and homes to be opened – all of which require the microchurch expression.

M

icrochurch to me has refined my relationship with the Lord. I realize that I need both micro and the macro to be a well rounded disciple and disciple-maker. My relationship with the Lord went from a vague concept of God to an intentional committed relationship with Him.” – Manuel Ramos

PARTNERING WITH FAMILIES TO HELP ORDINARY CHILDREN BECOME PASSIONATE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST – Priscilla Brown, Greenhouse Kids Director “This past year we have seen some of our young children really grow in what it looks like to be passionate followers of Jesus. Two of our children in 4th and 5th grades have recently repented from their sin and have chosen to follow Jesus, now bringing the Kingdom of God in their schools. They’ve done this by planting a small church in their afterschool program where together they preach to their fellow classmates from God’s Word in creative ways. These young men deeply desire for their peers to understand who Jesus is, and that they’ll make Jesus the Lord of their lives. It has been such a joy to see them thrive in their realtionship with Jesus, and share it with other children. The Lord has entrusted us with the future apostles, prophets, --------------------------evangelists, shepherds, and teachers!”

SWEAT YOUTH

WHEN YOU ARE HERE YOU ARE FAMILY – Michael Lugones, Youth Pastor “When God was looking across the earth for whom to give the incredibly important job of caring for Jesus, He decided on a teenager named Mary. Just like He believed in teenagers, we believe in teenagers; in their abilities, their ideas, and their callings. We believe that God has incredible things He wants to do here and now... and we believe teenagers play a vital part in that plan. SWEAT is going to be a place where teenagers can belong before they believe, and believe before they behave. A place where we will help ordinary teenagers become passionate followers of Jesus.”

me something new through the sermons as well as through worship. Since joining, I have grown exceptionally close to my leaders. They have prayed for me and guided me through some difficult times. I love spending time with them during SWEAT and outside of it! SWEAT is an environment where students can come as they are and are loved and valued wherever they are. I love how Pastor Michael’s sermons have encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone, and helped me learn leadership and discipleship skills. Seeing the impact it has made in my relationship with the Lord is remarkable. SWEAT provides unconditional love, spiritual growth, and is an authentic community of believers. I cannot imagine my life without the influence from this ministry. It is a place like no other, where students come and feel not only welcomed, but also loved. “ -Grace Powell, SWEAT Student

“Greenhouse University Campus has been a place of hope, encouragement, and transformation for me as a college student. I was baptized in the Swamp after one of the messages I heard at UA my freshman year, going all in with Jesus! Since then, I have found a community of believers at Greenhouse who are genuinely invested in my walk with Christ, shepherding me to love Jesus and love others. I look forward to visiting the UA each Sunday night to gather to lift up one voice of praise to our God. It amazes me seeing so many students coming together to worship our Creator, and I cannot imagine my time as a student without Greenhouse at University Campus!” – Troy Hamner

Ourmissionaries

We are absolutely committed to sending missionaries and mission dollars to people groups and places with little or no access to the Gospel of Jesus.

– Andrea Levings, Missions Director

INTERNATIONAL STORY (Our Missionaries) 2016 -------------------------------------------------

O

ur vision is to be a movement of disciples who reorient their lives around Jesus’ call to make more disciples. We long to be a multiplying network of churches and microchurches that unashamedly and fiercely love their neighbor both locally and globally - a place where ordinary people are mobilized to go and change the world. This year, Greenhouse sent out three of our own to live and serve among unreached people groups in The Middle East and Southeast Asia. Galen A., Jethro D., and Hannah H. are reorienting their lives to help make sure the Gospel is taken to every tribe, nation and tongue. Jesus was quite clear in His command to bring the news of His kingdom to every single human on the planet. We are troubled by the incredibly high volume of mission dollars and people sent to reach the already reached, while an estimated 2.9 billion people remain with little or no access to the Gospel. As a faith family, we are utterly committed to seeing no place left without access to the good news of Jesus in our world.

Refugeeswork

We sent $86,000 to refugee support and ministry in 2016!

We are committed to obeying God’s will for how His people are to respond to refugees around the world: Deuteronomy 10:17-18. The LORD your God is the God of all gods and Lord of all lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God who doesn’t play favorites and doesn’t take bribes. He enacts justice for orphans and widows, and he loves immigrants, giving them food and clothing.

Leviticus 19:34 – The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God. Malachi 3:5. I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against … adulterers, liars, those who oppress, the widow, the fatherless … and those who deny justice to the foreigner.

he Syrian refugee crisis is the ongoing result of civil war taking place in Syria since 2011. It has been described as “the worst humanitarian disaster of our time” and “the world’s largest refugee population,” displacing more than 11 million people (over half of whom are under the age of 18) and claiming over 300,000 lives. As a part of our mission to make disciples we are called to respond.

Hebrews 13:2. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers… Greenhouse partners with several international organizations to provide physical needs and opportunities for the Gospel to be proclaimed to refugees around the world. Our partners offer services ranging from field teams offering life saving support in active conflict-zones in Syria, to legal assistance and educational opportunities for refugees relocating to Greece and Germany, to multiple church planting movements in ISIS occupied regions.

The same Scripture that calls us to a righteous private life also calls us to a compassionate public life. The same Bible that causes us to become pro-life for a baby in the womb leads us to become pro-life for the displaced Muslim on the run. Pro-life means from the womb to the tomb. If ever Christians needed to lift a consistent pro-life voice it’s now.

n July, SWEAT Youth took a team of 12 to Kings Castle in El’ Salvador. While there, the nationals took us to conduct 11 street crusades in which we lead dances, dramas and comical skits. We visited four to six sites each day and shared the Gospel with 230 people. During our time, there were 96 decisions made for Christ and 26 healings. The trip was not only life changing, but I learned so much about the Lord while in El Salvador. Prior to going on the mission trip to El Salvador, I was completely clueless on what to expect. The two things of which I was certain included that we would have to speak Spanish and that we were going to spread the good news of Jesus through street ministry. During preparation for the trip, my relationship with the Lord was very shaky, yet I still was committed to going, and I am so glad I did. From the moment we stepped of the plane in El Salvador, I knew God was going to do amazing things in my life, through my life, and through our amazing team. (Con’t...)

Through each child I encountered and marveling at the beautiful creation all around us, I felt God’s love in a new way. I realized that the way I was living my life prior to the trip was not how God had intended. He has called us to live on mission, not just when we fly miles away from home, but in every aspect of our life. The people of El Salvador taught me something as well, and that is that even though they had little in material things, they have an Almighty God, and that is all they needed. I got to meet and talk with many people that impacted me greatly. I could go on and on about how my faith grew during this week in El Salvador but one major lesson learned on this trip was that love has no limits. Ironically, that phrase was written on our team shirts but it holds so much truth. No matter what language they spoke, what ethnicity they were, or even what living condition they came from, God’s love for them is the same as it is for you and for me. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about El Salvador and all the memories made there. I cannot wait to return this summer!”

Justice is something every generation has to strive for. -Dr. John Perkins

NATIONAL STORY (Jackson) 2016 ------------------------------------------------well-being of our city [or neighborhood],” trusting that if the entire community does well and prospers, then we will prosper also.

M

This past summer Greenhouse sent a team to work and learn under Dr. Perkins and his team in Jackson. Dr. and Mrs. Perkins have devoted almost forty years to living out the principles of Christian Community Development in Mississippi, establishing ministries and churches that are now headed by indigenous Christian leaders. The Greenhouse team served in classrooms and community service projects led by the Perkins Foundation, and were able to learn from great civil rights leaders throughout their week in Mississippi.

any of us have a deep sense that the world is not as it should be. Broken relationships. Divided communities. Poverty and violence in our neighborhoods . . .

The good news is that God longs to work through us to help restore things to the way they were intended to be. In the language of the Old Testament, this wholeness is called shalom—a state where nothing is missing and nothing is broken.

A major goal of the trip was to take strategies and philosophies learned from the Perkins team and reproduce them in our own community. We believe that God wants to restore us not only to right relationship with Himself but also with our own true selves, our families and our communities. Not just spiritually, but emotionally, physically, economically, and socially. Not by offering mercy alone, but by undergirding mercy with justice.

The John and Vera Mae Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation, Justice and Christian Community Development was founded in the 1960s by Dr. John Perkins. It has grown to a network of Christians committed to seeing people and communities wholistically restored. Greenhouse began a long-term partnership with Dr. John Perkins and the John and Vera Mae Perkins Foundation in 2016 to commit to follow Jesus’ example of reconciliation. As a faith family, we are committed to go where the brokenness is. We will live among the people in some of America’s neediest neighborhoods. We will become one with our neighbors until there is no longer an “us” and “them” but only a “we.” And, in the words of the Prophet Jeremiah, “we work and pray for the (Con’t...)

“I learned on this trip from Dr. John Perkins that we have to share the Gospel with others and be rooted in the love of Christ. reated Gainesville is a local faith based non-profit committed to the restoration of sex trafficked and sexually exploited women right here in our community. It is our goal to help these women understand their value, beauty and destiny by offering them a name, a place, a voice, and a new life in Jesus.

Created ministered to 245 women this year through strip club outreach, street outreach, jail visitation, and referrals from outside agencies. Created Gainesville goes out into the community to meet women right where they’re at and offer them love, support, and Jesus! Every Friday night Created invites women into community by sharing a meal and time of worship and Bible study. In 2016, Created Gainesville launched a new program called Created Care where women have the opportunity to receive housing assistance, counseling, mentoring, bus passes, assistance with education tuition, life skill and job skill coaching, as well as accountability! We have seen lives changed through this program and in 2017,

reenhouse at GRACE is a missions-based service dedicated to sharing the Gospel and making disciples of Jesus amongst the homeless community in Gainesville. Every week we reach more than 100 people with Christ’s loving touch in the parking lot of the homeless shelter known as GRACE Marketplace and Dignity Village. Beyond live preaching and worship, this is a Spirit-directed ministry where we see miraculous healing, deliverance and life transformation. In the spirit of the book of Acts, we follow each service with a special time of breaking bread and praying for one another in addition to having baptisms. Thousands of people have received hope and encouragement, scores baptized and countless have transitioned from homelessness since this outreach was planted in 2014. – Rob Witzel, Grace Marketplace Campus Director

we have hopes of opening both a residential and microbusiness component to the care we are able to offer. Please join us in praying for the resources needed to make this happen! Sex trafficking is a much bigger issue in our community than most people would think. It is affecting our children, college students, and women who find themselves in desperate and dangerous circumstances. Created Gainesville strives to shed light into a very dark and destructive issue that is running rampant in our world, country, state (Florida ranks 3rd in the nation for cases of HT), and community. Thank you Greenhouse Church for believing in our mission and standing with us in the fight against the sexual exploitation of women in our community! or the year alone in 2016: We’re averaging 100-120 women in each of our services at the Women’s Prison in Ocala 2-3 times monthly, and still growing, so much that they’re working on moving our service to a room that will hold over 200 women/inmates!

We are also averaging 100-120 women in the county jail every Sunday from noon to 5pm. Our girls coming out are saved, redeemed, getting baptized, receiving professional counseling, being mentored, loved on, and encouraged. One of our girls even just went through Breakthrough! she had anything to say to Jesus before being submerged in the water, she said, “Yes, I love You and I trust You!” There are many salvations amongst all of the women (There were 18 in one day a few weeks ago) in the county jail and state prison; I don’t always count them...God knows who they are! Many and most of these women do NOT have people praying for them. Please help us cover them in prayer. I’m working on MANY different “programs” within this ministry to help, invest in, and protect these women from returning to their past habitual environments with the RICHNESS of people who love Jesus and want to serve and love one another - and “the least of these”. –Nicole Roy, Women’s Prison Ministry Leader

ur society is plagued with a vicious cycle of delinquency, drugs and alcohol related crimes, and corruption. Law enforcement agencies do their best to protect citizens by fighting against crime to make society a safer place. Many of those apprehended at their wrongdoing are convicted in the court of law and sentenced accordingly. Then, they are sent to a local jail or to a state prison to serve time for the crime. But that only fixes one part of the problem. Jesus said “go and make disciples” He also said, “I was in prison and you visited me, As you did to the least of these you have done unto to me” We served at four male Prisons in 2016:

-RMC Lake Butler WC (weekly) -Gainesville WC (weekly) -Lancaster CI (weekly) -Putnam CI (once every three months) In 2016 the average attendance was 25 inmates per gathering. We had over 150 gatherings which equals to over 350 hours we spend speaking life, teaching the word, discipleship teaching and encouraging the lives of many. Disciples are being made in prisons. The consistency of brothers attending every week is an expression of the desire to change their lives. God has given us trust and honesty with these brothers to the point that they can see genuine true followers of Jesus letting them know that, they too can follow Him. –Robert Valdez, Men’s Prison Ministry Leader PAGE

We have potential opportunities in Florida.

We have been seeing continual and great growth at our South Florida campus, our first macrochurch plant outside of Gainesville!

We have microchurches in Tampa, FL, Atlanta, GA, Saudi Arabia, and Orlando, FL. Our Orlando location also has a house church that meets every Sunday.

W

e don’t just want churches: we want disciples. This is not hype for us. This is not just a trend that we are following. This is our response to the Biblical call to “Go”. But we don’t want to simply go: we want to do it right. We want to start with the right DNA and build off of our fierce commitment to “green” discipleship.

e see a multiplying network of churches and microchurches that unashamedly and fiercely love their neighbors both locally and globally. The Greenhouse Movement is a collaboration of like-minded church

planters and pastors that want to see churches planted and disciples made in Florida, the United States, and all over the world. We want to be faithful to the Biblical call in Acts 1:8 to be witnesses in both the local and global context. We want to see a radical propagation of the Gospel happen everywhere where there are people far from God.

PAGE

40

We are excited to see the Hub built, which will function as our primary training ground for church planters and missionaries who will be sent all over the world to share the Gospel and plant churches. In the meantime, we are laying the foundational groundwork that will allow us to see a significant shift in our efforts towards church planting and

We will begin MAPP (Missionary and Planter Pipeline) in the Fall of 2017. This will be a local training ground for church planters and missionaries who feel a call to GO and share the Gospel and plant churches both nationally and globally. This bi-vocational opportunity will effectively train those interested in church planting by equipping them with the skills needed to share the Gospel and plant microchurches, house churches, and macrochurches.

We are in communication with a few new planters who have expressed desire to come under the Greenhouse Movement banner and become part of our tribe.

The way you plant and the systems you use to do so are secondary to who you are and the values you ascribe to. Success for us is not just the number of Sunday morning attendees or any other external markers for that matter. Honestly, we would rather have 6 people in a house church that are radically seeking Jesus and making disciples who make disciples than a Sunday morning gathering of 300 non-disciples who are just looking for the next cool church experience. Quality before quantity. Character over gifting. Because when quality is the priority and firmly established, quantity is bound to follow. But if you compromise on quality for quantity, quality is hard to make up.

41

So our clarion call is to make fluent disciple makers. We are trying to create a unique and passionate culture, a kingdom of Jesus kind of culture. We do not want liberal or conservative, progressive or traditional; we want the Church. We want the kingdom of God. We want an alternative, inclusive culture, much like what we discover in the book of Acts. They were far from perfect, but they were very alive. And they turned their world upside down. We want an authentic community of passionate Jesus-followers that are more influenced by Kingdom culture than any other. We intend to build a tribal fire that resists unnecessary dogma – yet acknowledges that God has spoken and He has not stuttered. A culture has its songs, tells its stories, and creates its aroma. 2 TIMOTHY 3:14, 2:2 BUT YOU MUST CONTINUE IN THE THINGS WHICH YOU HAVE LEARNED AND BEEN ASSURED OF, KNOWING FROM WHOM YOU HAVE LEARNED THEM... AND THE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE HEARD FROM ME AMONG MANY WITNESSES, COMMIT THESE TO FAITHFUL MEN WHO WILL BE ABLE TO TEACH OTHERS ALSO.” We aren’t kidding ourselves into believing that culture does not influence the way we view reality. We recognize that every person brings a certain bias to their study of Scripture and their pursuit of God. Yet we find ourselves captivated by the possibility that God Himself is able to influence us more deeply than our earthly culture, and the book of Acts seems to show such an object lesson. God wants to create a culture that corresponds to a prayer that says, “on earth as it is in heaven.” What is the Church? It is God’s way of answering this prayer. And this is the church that we want to be. This is the church that we want to experience. This is the type of church that we want to plant.
