GALATIANS:  Gospel  Rooted  Living   Gospel  Rooted  Living  (Galatians  5:13-‐15)

SMALL  GROUP  Discussion  Questions  September  25,  2011   For  you  were  called  to  freedom,  brothers.  Only  do  not  use  your  freedom  as  an  opportunity  for  the  flesh,  but  through  love  serve  one     another. For  the  whole  law  is  fulfilled  in  one  word:  "You  shall  love  your  neighbor  as  yourself."  But  if  you  bite  and  devour  one  another,   watch  out  that  you  are  not  consumed  by  one  another.

Relationships  and  churches  can  be  messy  and  difficult.  Why  is  this  true?           How  does  Scripture  (especially  in  this  passage)  define  or  frame  the  concept  of  freedom?  In  what  ways  does  this   differ  from  how  the  world  understands  or  defines  freedom?           What  are  specific  ways  that  the  flesh  seizes  opportunity  in  your  life?    In  a  church?           Read  v.  13b  and  v.  14  together.  What  is  the  relevance  of  these  verses  in  the  context  of  this  passage?  (hint:    Paul   is  addressing  relational  conflict  and  selfishness)           Pastor  Todd  and  Paul  remind  us  that  we  will  offend  and  sin  against  one  another.  What  are  some  examples  of   healthy  (and  unhealthy)  ways  to  address  relational  conflict?    Feel  free  to  draw  on  the  Scripture  and  examples   from  the  sermon  (James  5:16;  Eph  4:1-‐2;  29;  Phil  2:1-‐4).           How  can  we  tangibly  commit  to  love  and  serve  one  another?  Provide  some  examples  (e.g.  how  to  communicate   via  email,  how  to  pray,  how  to  deal  with  offenses).  Think  both  proactively  (what  we  should  be  doing)  and   reactively  (behaviors  to  avoid).
