*Call to Worship

How will you worship? Not with words alone, but by living lives of justice and love. Come, you who belong to God. Come and abide in God’s tent and in God’s heart, now and forever.† All Creatures of Our God and King

Graham Ord

Welcome a stranger. Give an orphan hope. Visit a prisoner. Help a widow cope. Then your light will shine forth like the sun. Then your light will shine on everyone. Give away your money. Heal the broken hearts. Feed the hungry belly. Forgive the one who hurts. Then your light will shine forth like the sun. Then your light will shine on everyone. Speak out for the speechless. Love the one who’s weak. Give shelter to the homeless. Serve the one who’s least. Then your light will shine forth like the sun. Then your light will shine on everyone. Throw away vain arguments. The falsehood and deceit. Pound the drums for righteousness. Let injustice cease.

We come to worship the one true God.

Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Hassell Bullock, retired professor of Biblical Studies at Wheaton College, to look at the Palms from three perspectives: (1) a mirror—we will read them and see our own image in the mirror; (2) a garden—we will explore their varieties that enable us to pray when we are joyful, hopeful, depressed, angry, cynical, and so forth; (3) an emotive power—we will entertain their potential power to draw from our souls what we are otherwise incapable of generating or articulating on our own.
