This special Sunday calls United Methodist churches to strengthen our outreach around the country, encourage social justice, and work with at-risk youth. To join in making a difference, place your donation in the special envelope on Jan. 14, or send a check to the Church Office and notate “Human Relations Day.”

Opportunities at Gary Church Women’s Bible Study begins a new topic on Tuesday, Jan 9 at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Room. The Miracles of Jesus is a six-week study offering an in-depth look at Jesus’ miraculous deeds and their significance. The Lunch Group will meet on Jan. 11 at 12 p.m. in Gary’s Commons. Main dish will be provided. Bring a dish to share. Cost: $2 per person. Annual Celebration of the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ruth Lewis Bentley, Administrative Executive Director/Treasurer of The National Black Evangelical Association (NBEA) in Chicago, and founder of The International Christian Coalition for AIDS Reversal and Education (ICCARE), with associates in Zambia and Kenya. The Lunchtime Literary Group resumes Jan. 23 at 12 p.m. to discuss The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick. Read the book, pack a lunch, and join us in the Anderson Room. Grief Support Group Coffee: Jan. 24 and Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. in Commons A. All who have been a part of the Grief Support Group, as well as anyone else who has had a loss, is welcome to join us. Our next series will begin on Wednesday, Mar. 7 at 10 a.m. Movie Sing-Along: Jan. 28 from 3–5 p.m. Come gather in the Activity Center to watch a classic musical—and to sing along! The G.R.A.C.E team invites young and old to this afternoon of winter fun and fellowship. Bring chairs or blankets, and invite friends.

Burning Bush Art Gallery—An Outreach of Gary Church Upcoming Show: Palestine Unlimited, on display from Jan. 12–Feb. 11, features prizewinning photos from Dar Al-Kalima University College of Arts and Culture. Join us for an Artist’s Reception on Jan. 12 from 6–7:30 p.m. Bleak Midwinter for Peace Prospects in Israel and Palestine: Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Commons. Jim Winkler, General Secretary and President of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the US, will be speaking.

Children’s and Youth Ministries Gary Youth Serve Sunday: today from 3–4 p.m. at Brighton Gardens. Ring in the New Year with a visit to Brighton Gardens to play bingo with the seniors there. Gary Youth Midweek resumes Jan. 10 from 7:00–8:30 in the Activity Center. Middle and high school students, join us to meet new friends and get plugged into Gary Youth ministries. Cherub Choir for children ages 3–Kindergarten resumes Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 5:50– 6:25 p.m. in the Choir Room. Adult guardians and parents participate with their children, and childcare for children under 3 is available. Please register through the Church Office before attending. January Playgroup: Jan. 11 from 4–5 p.m. Let's play in the Activity Center. Snacks and juice boxes will be provided. All kids are welcome to attend. Parent’s Night Out: Jan. 19 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. in the Lower Level Lobby. Parent's Night Out is open to children ages 6 months–grade 3. Reservations are required through Gary's Church Office, and a donation of $5 per child is suggested. 4th & 5th Grade Fellowship SuperStart Theme Party: Jan. 19 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. in the Activity Center. Fourth and fifth graders from Gary Church and Wheatland-Salem Church are invited to a night of ultimate gaming. With a flair for 80’s arcades, we will look at how God’s word helps us power up! Gary Youth Game Night: Jan. 26 from 7–9 p.m. in the Activity Center. Middle and high school students, bring your favorite board games, card games, or any other kind of game. Gary Youth Winter Chill: Feb. 17–19 at Camp Geneva in Lake Geneva, WI. Middle and high school students are encouraged to join us. Come worship, tube, play broomball, and chill with us. Cost: $145 if registered by Jan. 17, $170 by Feb. 7. Includes all activities, travel, food, and a Winter Chill shirt.

Please Note Gary Youth Annual Pizza Sale: Place your order in the Commons on Sundays or through the website during Jan. Our eighth grade and high school students will be making the pizzas on Feb. 3, and you can pick them up at church the next morning, Feb. 4. United Methodist Scholarships and Loans help supplement the financial needs of today's students. To apply a student must be an active, full member of the United Methodist Church for at least one year. The Fall 2018 Application is now available through Mar. 7.
