Gary Church in Mission Common Ground Garden: Our community garden at Winfield Church now has 14 raised beds. Families can help tend the five beds used to grow produce for local food pantries or can have their own 4’ x 12’ garden for a $25 contribution to the community garden fund. Contact Fred Wayland through the Church Office to volunteer or to reserve your raised bed. People’s Resource Center is in need of Food Pantry Workers to unpack boxes, restock shelves, and assist shoppers as they select food at the Wheaton Food Pantry. If you are available to help any morning, Mon.–Sat., 8 a.m.-12 p.m., we’d love your help! Email [email protected] to learn more and get started!

Upcoming Events at Gary Church The Sermons of John Wesley: Wednesdays, June 5–Aug. 28, 10 a.m. in the Anderson Room. Join Holly Trueblood and Donna Trieschmann to study a sermon of John Wesley each week as we explore our Methodist heritage and theology. Attend as often as your summer schedule allows. Copies of each sermon will be in the Commons. VBS and Blast Volunteer Training: Sun., June 9, 4 p.m. in the Activity Center. All volunteers are encouraged to attend this informational training to receive materials for their VBS and BLAST roles and meet their ministry teams. Building VBS: Many hands are needed to transform Gary Church into an African adventure for Roar VBS. RSVP to [email protected] if you can help with:  scaffolding assembly on Tues., June 11 and Thurs., June 13, 6:30–8:30 p.m.  family pizza and decorating night on Wed., June 12, 5 p.m.   final set-up on Sat., June 15, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Early Bird Choir! If you miss singing during the summer, please join us in the Choir Room one hour before the first service begins to prepare an easy anthem to share that same Sunday. July 7: Rehearse at 8 a.m. for the 9 a.m. service. Aug. 4: Rehearse at 8 a.m. for the 9 a.m. service. The Lunchtime Literary Group will not meet during the summer. Their next meeting will be Tues., Sept. 23, 12 p.m. in the Anderson Room. They will discuss Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

Children’s and Youth Ministries Serve Sunday: today, June 2, 3–4 p.m. at Brighton Gardens (831 Butterfield Rd, Wheaton). Middle and high school students, come play bingo with the seniors at Brighton Gardens! Gary Youth Midweek: Wed., June 5, 7–8:30 p.m. in the Activity Center for middle school students. Join us for our final meeting of the school year. Gary Youth Summer Kickoff Party: Fri., June 14, 7 p.m. at Winfield UMC. Middle and high schoolers, come celebrate summer with a bonfire, yard games, and s’mores. CIY Summer Camps: We are thrilled to have camp options for both middle and high schoolers this summer! High School: MOVE Camp, Mon.–Fri., June 24–29 in Holland, MI. Middle School: MIX Camp, Mon.–Fri., July 29–Aug. 2 in Carlinville, IL. Details and registration are at www.garychurch.org. Summer Shirts are back! We’ve got super soft tees to make students feel like they are wrapped up in a big hug from Gary Youth no matter where they are. Check them out on the upper level and grab yours for $15 anytime the Church Office is open.

If you are interested, please email Jennifer Whiting ([email protected]) with the following information: song title, composer and arranger, instrumentation, and dates you are available. VBS Donations Needed. We’re looking for a few donations to keep or borrow: colorful fabric/sheets, wood crates, African baskets/décor, colorful rugs/blankets. Place your name and contact information on all items you would like returned. Donations can be left in the Lower Level Resource Room.    Have a new email address or phone number? The Gary/Winfield Guide Book Directory is being updated. If you have changed your email, dropped your landline, or moved, please let the Church Office know by Mon., July 1. Burning Bush—An Outreach of Gary Church Now Showing: Transitions, an exhibit by Karen A. Johnson and Suzanne Wegener, through Sun., June 9. Johnson and Wegener are natural science illustrators.
