Gerry Schmidt is also leading a HFH International Global Village build to Krabi, Thailand in late Apr. 2018 and invites Gary members to be part of the volunteer team. Contact Gerry through the Church Office for information about these opportunities. Helping Hands Mission Book Drive: Feb. 4–18. Gary Kids will be collecting gently used children’s books to donate to Bernie’s Book Bank, which distributes quality children’s books to at-risk infants, toddlers, and school-age children throughout the area. Donations can be dropped off on Sunday mornings in the Lower Level.

Children’s and Youth Ministries Musical Rehearsals for children and youth continue today from 1–3 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Come be part of The Old Testament Fast Forward. Future rehearsals will be Sunday afternoons, Feb. 4–Mar. 11 from 2–4 p.m. The musical will be performed on Mar. 18 at 4 p.m. Gary Youth Midweek: We will not meet on Jan. 31. Middle and high school students, join us again on Feb. 7 from 7–8:30 p.m. in the Activity Center. Pizza-Making for Gary Youth Fundraiser: Feb. 3, 4:30–7 p.m. Eighth grade and high school students will meet in Gary’s kitchen to make the pizzas for our fundraiser. We’ll make our pizzas and have a couple for dinner Serve Sunday: Feb. 4 from 3–4 p.m. Middle and high school students, come spend an hour playing Bingo with the residents of Brighton Garden Assisted Living in Wheaton. Gary Youth Winter Chill: Feb. 17–19 at Camp Geneva in Lake Geneva, WI. Middle and high school students are encouraged to join us. Come worship, tube, play broomball, and chill with us. Register by Feb. 7. The $170 cost includes all activities, travel, food, and a Winter Chill shirt. Playgroup: Feb. 8 from 4–5 p.m. in the Activity Center. The kids can run around, ride scooters, and play with balls and hula hoops. Snacks provided. All kids are welcome. 4th & 5th Grade Fellowship: Feb. 9 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. in the Activity Center. Be sure to join us as we pack family meal bags for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. Parent’s Night Out: Feb. 16 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. in the Lower Level Lobby. Parent's Night Out is open to children ages 6 months–grade 3. Reservations are required through Gary's Church Office and a donation of $5 per child is suggested.

Opportunities at Gary Church Gary/Winfield Lunch Group will meet on Feb. 8 at 12 p.m. in Gary’s Commons. Main dish provided. Bring a dish to share. Cost: $2 per person. All are welcome Faith Club: A Women’s Interfaith Book Discussion Group meets on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Anderson Room. Join other women of Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faith to discuss Sophia's Journal, an historic YA novel by Najiyah Diane Maxfield. RSVP to Cathy Mousseau through the Church Office. Pastor’s Lenten Study: Wednesdays, Feb. 21–Mar. 28 at 10 a.m. in the Anderson Room. We will use as source material God Has A Dream: A Vision of Hope for Our Time by Desmond Tutu, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech” and Isaiah 58, as we attempt to “see with the eyes of the heart and in stillness hear God’s voice” during such a time as this. The Lunchtime Literary Group will meet Feb. 27 at 12 p.m. to discuss Britt-Marie Was Here by Frederick Backman. Read the book, pack a lunch, and join us in the Anderson Room.

Please Note Gary Youth Annual Pizza Sale: Order today in the Commons or at garychurch.org by Jan. 31. Our eighth and high school students will be making the pizzas on Feb. 3, and you can pick them up at church on Feb. 4. Get a yummy pizza to enjoy during the big game while supporting the students and ministry of Gary Youth. Win, win! Gary Kids is in need of a volunteer for the Kindergarten Sunday School class. If you can lead one Sunday a month and assist one Sunday a month, please contact Carey Bebar. Auction Items Needed for Soup & Chili Cook-off and Auction: Mar. 18. We are so thankful for auction items donated each year to support the Gary Youth summer mission trip, but also have a need for new donations to help us reach our fundraising goal. Altar Flowers: If you would like to provide flowers for our altar on Sunday mornings, call or e-mail the Church Office. Burning Bush Art Gallery—An Outreach of Gary Church Now Showing: Palestine Unlimited, on display through Feb. 11, features prize-winning photos from Dar Al-Kalima University College of Arts and Culture. Calendars for Burning Bush events such as drum circles, open mic nites, artist events, and gong meditations are available in the Commons.
