This book, in ten chapters, attempts to cover current major research areas in boron chemistry. In the past five years a number of collections of review articles and treatises on selected tapirs in boron chemistry have become avsihble in book form. An obvious question to be considered by any potential purchaser of this work is its relationship to these earlier publications. From the standpoint of duplication of effort, then is indeed significant overlap. Nevertheless, this reviewer believes that the book here considered is sufficiently unique and timely to merit eonsidera.tion not only by those doing research in baron chemistry, but also by those who would care to increase their undemtrtnding of the scope of boron chemistry. The format of this book is appealing to the eye. Figures m e among the best this reviewer bas seen; errors detected are of a minor nabure and few in number. The contents of this work, with brief comments, me listed below. "Elementary Boron and Compounds of High Boron Content: Structure, Properties, and Polymolphism" by J. L. Hoard and R. E. Hughes. expended considerable effort in preparing this chapter; it contains 129 pages and 230 references and concerns the structure and chemistry of boron, binary borides, and boron nitrides in the solidstate. "The Structural Chemistry of the Borates," by John 0. Edwards and Virginia. F. Ross. This 52 page chapter contains 256 references.
