Tell one of those two examples: Lucy Mack Smith searched the scriptures was an example to Joseph for him to search them when he had questions. She also went to the Lord in mighty prayer. Elder Holland paid tribute and thanks to his mother by telling the story about what happened after he came home from his mission. Tell the story: Mine was an expensive mission. I saved money to pay my own way as best I could but wasn’t sure I’d have enough money. I left my family for my great experience. I returned home just as my parents were called to serve a mission. What do I do now? How can I pay for a college education or pay for board and room and realize the dream of my heart and marry the breathtaking Patricia. I was discouraged and frightened. I went to the bank and asked what is in my account. He said, it’s all in your account. Your parents wanted to do what they could when you got home and didn’t withdraw a cent for your mission. My dad, a self-educated accountant with few clients never wore a new suit or shirt or a new pair of shoes for two years so his son could have those for his mission. My mother who had never worked out of the home, took a job at a department store so my mission expenses could be met. Not one word of that was conveyed to me on my mission. How many mothers in these times are still doing what my mother did. My father is gone 34 years so I will have to wait to thank him on the other side. My mother turns 95 this week and is watching so it’s not late to thank you.
