GENEROSITY Bob Fox June 18, 2017

2 CORINTHIANS 9:8-15

To be generous at God’s direction is to live in life-giving partnership with your Creator. 1. A generous heart develops from our trust that Yahweh’s power, desire and justice mean favors of every sort from Him will be commonplace in our experience. 2. God partners with us in our occupation, giving us opportunity and wisdom that help us earn more than we need so as to invest in His mission. 3. Throughout Scripture, generosity is linked to growth in all spiritual things (vs. 8-10; Luke 12:34; 16:11). 4. Our generosity enables the progress of Yahweh’s work by: a. bankrolling ministry. b. giving credibility to our message. c. bonding/uniting people. Christ enables the eternal flow to us of all that Yahweh the Sovereign/Creator is and has.

QUESTIONS

1. Verse 8 reminds us that God has called us to live trusting in Him. Why do investments make me feel secure instead of what I know of Him? What can we do in ourselves and among those we love to lessen our trust in our money/things and increase our trust in Him?

2. Verse 8 speaks also of God being able to make “all grace” abound to you. What are some things He gives by His grace that make this thought inspiring and hopeful?

3. Verses 10-11 say that generosity with things/money produces a return for you. What is that return? Is Paul just being a “promoter” here, or can you think of other verses in the Scripture that support this idea?

4. Generosity produces more than just eliminating needs (vs 11-14). What are some things it produces in others that are worth far more than the face-value of the money? Why are these things worth so much? What can we do to keep freshening this idea in one another?

5. Nothing can FULLY express the value of what God has done for us. Talk to each other about things God does, and things He just IS, that you are thankful for and moved by.
