Genesis Author: Moses Though the events of Genesis end three centuries before Moses birth, the whole of scripture is unified in its testimony of Mosaic authorship of the first five books of the Old Testament (The Torah or Law) cf. Exodus 17:14; 24:4, 7; 34:27; Lev. 1:1-2; Numbers 33:2; Deut. 31:24-26; John 1:17; 10:45-47; Romans 10:5 etc. Moses undoubtedly had both oral and written records of early history which were used under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to write about events that preceded his life. (See the instructor’s handout on the Documentary Hypothesis). Date of Events: Creation – 1804 BC Time of Writing: Between 1540 and 1410 BC Theme:

God’s sovereignty in creation, procreation, redemption, history, and especially in His choice, direction and preservation of Israel – A nation through whom He will bless all the peoples of the earth.
