The mission of First Baptist Woodway’s Children’s Ministry is to share God’s Word so that children have the greatest opportunity to know, love and serve God and to equip parents as they disciple and raise their children in Christ.

We serve for His glory – not our own – and we serve because Jesus Himself came not to be served, but to serve (Matt. 20:28). As Disciples who seek to follow in the way of Jesus Christ, we need to do as Jesus did to nourish and strengthen our relationship with God. We were created to serve God by caring for His children and acting as good stewards of His creation. No matter what your God-given gifts are, First Woodway can put them to His use. Whether you serve as a teacher, helper, greeter or an extra pair of hands, Christians with a spirit for service are needed for countless volunteer opportunities in our Kingdom Kids Ministry. Our belief is that as people serve, the impact of that service will change lives… for those serving, for the people they serve, and even for those who see them giving their time to help someone else. SUNDAY mornings Sunday School: Teacher/Helper Infants-Grade 6; Serves 9:00 am Infants-Three Year Olds; Serves 10:15 am Sunday mornings are always exciting. Our staff and volunteers are passionate about discipling kids to become fully devoted followers of Christ! Teachers and helpers with infants and one year olds lead our youngest children as they begin to learn that Jesus loves them. They do this through games, play time, Bible stories, and simple songs. Our teachers and helpers with two years olds through first grade guide kids as they begin to learn more about what it means to have a relationship with Jesus. Teachers lead the children through the use of puppets, drama, Bible stories, games, crafts, and snacks that reinforce the story. Teachers and helpers with second through sixth grade train our kids to worship God in all that they do. With this age group, the opportunities abound to challenge the kids to apply God’s truth to their lives. They do this through great discussion time, exciting Bible stories, interactive games, and more. Prep time: 30 minutes to 2 hours prior to Sunday morning Pre-K Praise: Leader/Helper Age: Pre-K Serves: 10:15 am Pre-K Praise is a special praise time designed specifically for our pre-k kids. The Bible lesson for the day comes alive through interactive multi-media, music, games, crafts, and snacks. As a leader in Pre-K Praise, you will greet children as they arrive, guide them through centers, and share the Truth of God’s Word. Join us as we use this creative time of worship to show the love of Christ to the kids. Prep time: 15-30 minutes prior to Sunday morning
Hallelujah House: Small Group Leader Age: Kindergarten-Grade 1 Serves: 10:15 am Hallelujah House is children’s worship for our kinder and first grade kids, and has two elements: large group and small group. During large group time, the kids participate in fun activities, followed by a powerful time of praise and worship, skits, drama, puppets, and Bible teaching. After large group time, the kids transition to small group time for relationship building, discussion, activities, prayer, and more! Your role as a leader is to greet kids, love them, and serve as a leader and mentor to them. Prep time: None
The Word: Small Group Leader Age: Grades 2-6 Serves: 10:15 am Sunday morning in The Word is always exciting and it is the kind of environment where kids want to invite their friends! Gravitate: The large group time to hang out and play games with friends and small group leaders! Meet and greet kids as they arrive, hang out with them and catch up on their week! Elevate: The large group time designed to praise, worship and discover God’s Word! This is a powerful time of worship, drama, skits, videos, teaching, and more! Your role is to model Jesus and actively participate in worship. Navigate: The small group time where YOU review and reinforce the lesson to help the kids apply concepts to their everyday lives. The games and activities are planned ahead for you and emailed in advance! Leaders build relationships with the kids through discussion and prayer! Prep time: 30 minutes prior to Sunday morning
The Word: Band Member/Worship Leader Age: Grades 2-6 Serves: 10:15 am + Rehearsal Come see what is happening in “The Word“ at 10:15 am! It’s fun, it’s loud, it’s where the kids want to be, and it’s a place they want to bring their friends! Engaging kids and creating an atmosphere for worship are all elements that make this ministry both FUN and effective for Christ! If you can play an instrument or sing, then volunteer to be a part of this worship band. Prep time: Rehearsals
Welcome & Hospitality Team Serves: Before 9:00 and 10:15 am hours
First impressions really matter. As such, we need volunteer greeters to smile, welcome, guide families, and answer questions about our children’s ministry and church. We also need volunteers to help kids and families with check-in prior to class as well as capture information from first time visitors. An added benefit from being on the welcome/hospitality team is the hugs you receive from kids! Prep time: none
Floor Coordinator Age: Infants-Grade 6 Serves: 9:00 and 10:15 am Sunday mornings are always exciting in Kingdom Kids! While teachers and helpers are teaching our precious children about Jesus, floor coordinators assist them by pulling supplies and delivering snacks. They also assist the children’s coordinators with making visitors feel welcome, and putting supplies away. We are looking for three different floor coordinators each hour: 1. Infants through Pre-K 2. Kindergarten and First Grade 3. Second through Sixth Grades Floor coordinators arrive 20 minutes before their scheduled hour.
Prayer Team Serves: 8:30 am
Do you believe in the power of prayer? We do! We need prayer warriors to join with us in praying for our ministry. Opportunities for prayer include: 1. Join others for a special prayer time at 8:30 am every Sunday morning to pray for the Spirit to move. 2. Be on the email list to receive prayer requests specific to children’s ministry. 3. Cover our special events in prayer or even “prayer-walk” the church grounds for special events like VBS and Fall Festival. Prayer is amazing! Come see how God always moves when we pray specifically, and according to His Spirit. Prep time: pray regularly!
SUNDAY evenings Bible Buddies & Bible Drill: Leader/Helper Age: Kindergarten-Grade 6 Serves: 5:05 pm Bible Buddies is for children in Kinder - 3rd grades. As a leader, you will teach Bible 101 to the kids. This includes books of the Bible, key passages and verses, and it is accomplished through fun Bible games and activities provided in the curriculum. You will help children to navigate through the Bible and equip them not only for Bible Drill, but for a lifetime of Bible study. Come be a part of this fun time of learning and discovery. Prep time: 15-30 minutes prior to Sunday evening Bible Drill is for children in 4th - 6th grades. As a teacher, you will help children learn the 66 books of the Bible, 10 key Bible passages and 25 verses through fun and exciting games and activities. Adding to the excitement, you will help prepare the children to “Drill,” where in ten seconds they both recall and locate verses, books and passages. As a teacher, you are invited to parties and to State Bible Drill which includes a trip out of town for Friday night! Come join the team for skills, drills and thrills! Prep time: 15-30 minutes prior to Sunday evening
Awana Clubs: Leader/Helper Age: Two Year Olds-Grade 6 Serves: 5:15 pm Puggles is an enriching program for 2 year olds that combines a variety of age-appropriate materials to bring Bible truths to life. Through teaching, music and enriching play, you will plan and direct your club time and communicate the weekly lesson! Cubbies is the preschool program for 3 & 4 year olds where children have tons of fun memorizing scripture and playing lively games. Games, puppets, crafts, awards, and other activities transform this program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand! Sparks is for Kindergarteners through 2nd graders and uses engaging curriculum, activities, and group interaction to teach kids the Bible. The curriculum provides regular opportunities for children to hear the Gospel message and come to faith in Jesus Christ. It combines learning with fun to create an atmosphere of irresistible excitement for churched and unchurched kids alike! Truth and Training is all about evangelism and discipleship while also cementing Bible truths in our preteens students in grades 3-6! Our weekly meetings expose children to the Gospel message, scripture memory, Bible study, awards, team-oriented games and gut-busting fun! Prep Time for Puggles: 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to Sunday night Prep Time for Cubbies, Sparks, T & T: ZERO minutes – yes it’s true! The kids do all the prep by memorizing their scriptures at home, and your responsibility is to listen to their verses and help them understand the meaning of the verses.
WEDNESDAY evenings Kids’ Music: Leader/Helper Age: Three Year Olds-Grade 6 Serves: 6:00 pm This is the place to be if you love kids and love music. Our teachers encourage the kids to sing and move as the director leads. Our children’s choirs are: JAM (Jesus and Me): 3 year old choir JoyFULL Noise: Pre-K choir Kingdom Praise: Kindergarten choir KREW (Kids Radically Experiencing Worship): 1st-6th grade choir Our oldest choir prepares a musical each year. As a volunteer in this choir, you will help the kids as they learn their lines and solos and assist during special rehearsals. Come and be a part of instilling a love for music in the hearts of our kids. Prep time: 15-30 minutes prior to Wednesday night
Kids’ Missions: Leader/Helper Age: Three Year Olds-Grade 6 Serves: 6:45 pm The goal of our missions program is to teach our children that we are the workmen of Christ and that we are called to share the good news of Christ. Mission Friends - Change a Preschooler, Change the World Mission Friends teaches 3 year olds, Pre-K and Kindergarteners that they can pray for missionaries and actively support them. As their teacher, you set up hands-on activities that create opportunities for children to learn about missionaries in the US and around the world. Through snacks, crafts, and stories of missionaries, children are introduced to different cultures. Help preschoolers discover missions! Prep time: 30-45 minutes prior to Wednesday night Girls Missions - Teachers help 1st-6th grade girls learn about missions while having a great time! Teachers help set up ministry projects, and facilitate discussions about how we can be actively involved in missions. Sharing your life with these girls will build lasting relationships and impact future generations. Come join the action! Prep time: 30 minutes prior to Wednesday night Boys Missions - Think missions, guy style - lots of activities with a purpose: to learn about God, to learn how God is using people to reach the world with the gospel of Christ, and to learn how God can use them today. Some highlights: campouts, racers, rockets, and visits from missionaries. Each week, teachers present a lesson followed by activity time. As teachers work and play alongside the boys, they have the opportunity to build relationships and talk about Christ. Come join the fun as our 1st-6th grade boys learn how they can impact the world around them and beyond. Prep time: 10-15 minutes prior to Wednesday night
VARIOUS times Special Needs: Teacher/Helper/Buddy 9:00 & 10:15 – Sunday mornings 5:00 – Sunday evenings; 6:00 – Wednesday evenings Helping Hands provides ministry for persons with disabilities (babies through adulthood) and their families. It is our desire that people affected by disabilities come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Just as God showed His great love and compassion, we want to follow our Lord’s example in reaching out to people who have disabilities. First Woodway has a dedicated Special Needs Suite, designed for our preschool through teen-age students as well as a class for adults with special needs. Inclusion (with a buddy) is available by arrangement during all program times. Prep time: 15-30 minutes
Special Events Various Times throughout the Year
Our special events are definitely one-of-a-kind! From Fall Festival to Daddy/Daughter Banquet to VBS to Pre-Teen Camp to Parent Events to everything in between, we offer a wide variety of special events. We are looking for those “behind-the-scenes” people who love to help set the atmosphere for our events and for those who enjoy all the details that must be tended to before and after an event. Some opportunities with events might include: meeting & greeting, decorating, set-building, planning & organizing, set up, tear down, food preparation, serving, ushering, helping with games and crafts, publicity, etc. Prep time: varies by area of activity
Office Help Various Times throughout the Year
Our office volunteers are such a blessing to the Kingdom Kids staff. These behind-the-scenes volunteers help to keep the ministry going by preparing craft supplies for our teachers, pre-cutting things for our preschoolers, cleaning up our resource rooms, filing, organizing, preparing mailings, etc. Prep time: None
