What to Expect on Race Day

WHAT TO WEAR Girls on the Run girls & coaches should wear their BLUE t-shirt. Please attach her race bib to the front of her t-shirt with safety pins. Don’t forget to fill out the emergency contact info on the back of her race bib. Of course tutus, capes, superhero cuffs and fun hats are not only allowed by encouraged! Check with your GOTR girl’s coaches – they may have something planned for their team already!

Please plan to arrive between 8:00 and 9:00am. Your GOTR girl will meet her team in the GOTR Village area. All teams will have a large flag which will be placed in alphabetical order. This will be your team’s ‘home base’ and also a great place to meet family members who are coming to watch the 5k. The Fun Zone will be open from 8:00 to 10:00am for girls and their families. Girls can get their hair sprayed funky colors, faces tattooed, take silly photos in the photo booths, decorate their race bibs, write their coach a thank you note in the Gratitude Garden. Zumba will begin at 9:15. Enjoy all the pre-race fun until 9:40am. At that time girls should find their running buddies and head over to the starting corrals located in the middle of the track. Start Corrals: In order to provide the safest and most enjoyable event experience and to allow for plenty of space on the race courses, the 5K start will be divided into three waves of runners based on color corral assignments. Please look at the color corral assignments sheet (next page) to see which wave your GOTR participant's school will be assigned. If you are a community runner (unaffiliated with any of the GOTR girl), you may run in Wave 1 Green. The 5k Course will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning at 9:45 am. Road closures will be monitored by Cornwall Police Department and over 20 volunteer course marshals. The course starts with one loop around the track before exiting onto Faculty Road. Runners will exit NYMA and head up Main Street making a left at Town Hall onto Hudson Street. At Academy Ave, runners will turn left and head back to NYMA running through the campus and finishing where they started. Mile markers will be posted at miles 1, 2 and 3. There is one large water station at Mile 1.5. At the finish, participants will receive post-event refreshments. For the safety of our participants, we ask that spectators stay out of the finisher’s chute and meet their finisher at the exit of the chute. Upon exiting the chute, runners will be directed to the 5k Finisher’s Photo Booth. Our Sparkle Runners team is a set of women who embody the Girls on the Run spirit. They will walk and run with the girls, but will not cross the finish line until everyone else has finished, ensuring that no one participant is “last” and that the completion of the 2016 Spring Girls on the Run 5k is a joyful celebration! Dogs are not allowed on the New York Military Academy campus grounds. Thank you for understanding!
