Girls on the Run of the Triangle, Inc. S.T.A.R Team Coach Position Description and Expectations Girls on the Run Mission: to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The Position: The Girls on the Run of the Triangle S.T.A.R (Support, Teach, Appreciate, Retain) Team is a volunteer group of experienced GOTR coaches whose primary responsibilities are to ensure program quality through supporting the GOTR volunteer coach base. S.T.A.R. Team coaches will be expected to complete the following tasks:         

Participate in S.T.A.R. Coach focus group planning and orientation. Help in the development of an online Coach Resource Center, as well as curriculum specific resources. Participate in Coach Training on August 24th (Orange/Durham) or September 7th (Wake). Lead break out discussions/education sessions with their assigned cohort during midseason coach meeting (date TBD). Provide on-site visits (a minimum of two) to a team of 4-5 sites within an assigned geographic region. Participate in GOTR lessons during on-site visits. Provide appreciation, resources, suggestions and camaraderie to coaches prior to and/or following on-site visits. Communicate often with the GOTR staff regarding successes, challenges, and ideas for the S.T. A.R Coach Project. Provide an end-of-season acknowledgement for cohort (i.e. thank you note, photo, recognition of positive mentoring/modeling of GOTR mission)

Required Skills/Characteristics    

Experience as a GOTR Coach for at least two seasons. Must display a personal passion for the mission of GOTR and be a role model of health and self-esteem. Accurately articulate the mission of GOTR and authentically relay programming activities. Able to draw on previous experience and resources to support, motivate, and encourage GOTR coaches toward excellence.

S.T.A.R. Team coaches should focus on building supportive relationships and feel comfortable at providing positive and constructive feedback while also offering suggestions for improvement with fellow coaches. Excellent communication, collaboration, and team participation skills. Must be able to take initiative, display responsibility, and be accountable for position responsibilities. Ability to travel within assigned territory, using a personal vehicle. Available from September through December 2013, for up to 5 hours a week.

Position Specifics: S.T.A.R. Coaches will be paid a stipend commensurate with size of team cohort, number of site visits and site involvement. Additionally, S.T.A.R. Coaches will be reimbursed for all documented travel to their assigned sites. Time Line: June - July:

S.T.A.R Coaches recruited; initial meeting conducted

August:

S.T.A.R. Coach Opening Meeting and Orientation

Aug 24th/Sept 7th:

Coach Trainings (8/24: Orange and Durham and 9/7: Wake)

Week of Sept 16th:

Communicate with all cohort members re: Season Start Up

September 23rd:

Fall Season begins

Oct 7th – 11th:

Begin site visits. Communicate with all members of your cohort.

Oct. 15-Oct. 29:

Continue site visits. Follow up, communicate, and support cohort members appropriately based on feedback, observations and conversations.

Week of Nov 4th:

Mid-season Coach gathering; arrange small group cohort meetings.

Dec. 2nd – 13th:

Final visits, check-ins, and thank you’s to coaches.

December 14th:

Attend Reindeer Romp
