In just a couple weeks, your GOTR girl will join almost 2,000 girls from ten counties across the Greater Kansas City area to complete her goal of crossing the finish line at the Girls on the Run season-ending 5k event. We are so excited to share this milestone with you and the girls! The following is information you will need for pre-race and race day. As always, please let us know if you have any questions!

Registration for the 5K Girls on the Run program participants are ALREADY registered for the 5K. You do not have to register your GOTR girl to participate in the run/walk. PARENTS, GUARDIANS, and COMMUNITY PARTICIPANTS must complete the online registration and pay the registration fee. We strongly encourage each girl to have a buddy to run with at the 5K. With more than 4,000 runners on the course, her running buddy will be the key to making this a fun and safe experience for her. A running buddy can be a friend, family member, coach, teacher...anyone you think who will be an encouraging partner for your GOTR girl! The registration fee is $30 until May 13th. Registration is available at packet pickup or race morning for $40. Go to www.gotrkc.org to find the link to our registration page. Scholarships are available.

Getting There RACE LOCATION: Corporate Woods, Overland Park, KS. Corporate Woods is located at College Boulevard and Antioch. From 1-35, exit to 69 Highway, then take the College Blvd East exit. The race starts and finishes in front of Building 40, 9401 Indian Creek Parkway. Course map is below!

BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE ON RACE MORNING: Be sure your daughter wears her GREEN program shirt. They will be identified as participants by their shirt and bib color. Her TIMING CHIP is already attached to back of her race bib.

Parking at Corporate Woods You can enter Corporate Woods from either Antioch or College Boulevard. From Antioch, enter on Indian Creek Parkway or 110th Street. From College Boulevard, enter on Benson, Grandview, Indian Creek Parkway, or Mastin. You will find plenty of parking at any of these entrances. Overland Park Police may restrict traffic around the course from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., so there may be traffic congestion for late arrivals.

Race Packets—Where and When! PACKET PICK UP- Your GOTR girl should have already received her green program shirt and will receive her race packet from her coach. You do not need to pick up her packet. Please check in with your coach for instructions on getting her packet. Race Day—SUNDAY May 17, 2014 Plan to arrive at 7:00 am. Your daughter will meet her team in school village. Look for your team’s flag—all flags are in alphabetical order. This is also a great place to meet family members who are coming to watch the race. FUN ZONE is from 7:00 – 10:30 am! The girls and other race participants will have the opportunity to make a crown, get their faces painted, do happy hair (colored hair spray!), take silly photos in photo booths, and participate in dancing and games for prizes.

RACE LINE UP starts at 7:45 am. New this year- wave starts! Our first wave (Blue Balloons) is for our Community Runners and anyone expecting to cross the finish line under 25 minutes.

Before the Event...

 Get a good night’s sleep.  Eat a light meal a couple hours before the start time.  Be prepared for any and all kinds of weather. We will run rain or shine. The event will only be canceled if weather is dangerous.  Roasterie Coffee will be selling delicious coffee onsite for you to get your coffee fix.

Schools/Sites will be assigned alphabetically to a colored wave. Start line volunteers will come to your team flag with the assigned colored balloons. Each team will follow the volunteer holding their colored balloons to their assigned wave start area. Please join your daughter’s team in the wave start line-up. Walkers and those with strollers are encouraged to line up behind the last balloons. RACE START is at 8 AM! CHIP TIMING – your timing will begin when you cross the starting mats and your finish time will be recorded when you cross the finish mats.

Other Race Day Information FREE PHOTOS will be taken before, during and after the event! A link to download pictures will be posted on our website and Facebook the week after the event. DOGS - Service dogs will be on course with some of our girls, so we ask that you leave your family pets at home. iPODS- Wearing headphones is not permitted for safety reasons. All participants must be aware of their surroundings at all times. Besides, you want to hear all the laughing, chatting and cheers along the way!

We have ordered perfect weather for race day! Our Spring 5K will take place rain or shine. In the unlikely event of dangerous weather, the race director may cancel or amend the race for everyone’s safety. No refunds will be given. If weather conditions are unstable on race morning, check our Facebook page for last-minute weather cancellation news.
