Join us in getting Girls on the Run South Alabama off to a great start in our community! Girls on the Run South Alabama Council is now the official Girls on the Run Council serving the girls in Mobile and Baldwin counties. The Girls on the Run program kicked off this fall, beginning with the 2015 school year. All we are missing now is financial support! About Girls on the Run Girls on the Run (GOTR), established in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina, is program for girls to provide the necessary tools to embrace their individual strengths and successfully navigate life experiences. It inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. Girls on the Run South Alabama will facilitate a powerful after-school program, over a period of 10 - 12 weeks per “season,” for girls in 3rd through 5th grades. At the end of each season, the girls participate in a 5k running event. While GOTR lessons incorporate running, they more importantly encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Meeting twice a week after-school, participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls their age face. They develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences and make healthy choices. Completing the 5k at the end of the season also gives the girls a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. While participation in the program is fee based, no girl is ever turned away for inability to pay. That’s why your financial support is vital to getting this program started. So join us in bringing GOTR to our community! Pledge forms can be returned to: Girls on the Run South Alabama P.O. Box 850722 Mobile, AL 36685
