October 2009

NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT The annual meeting will be October 8, 2009 at the Leon Springs Baptist Church. Please consider running for a Board position or becoming a committee member. We will also make bylaws recommendations at the meeting. David Wegmann, P.E., Bexar County Capital Projects Engineer gave us the following update on the Boerne Stage Rd Improvement Project. Proposed drainage easements and areas of right of way acquisition will be finalized this week. Timeline for construction is still another year away based on easement and right of way acquisitions. Construction will take another 12-15 months. An information meeting will be held on Oct. 1, 7pm at Leon Springs Baptist Church. Interested property owners can view exhibits and ask questions at the meeting. The rain we received in September was an answer to our prayers. Even though flowers have bloomed and the grass is a little greener we still need to conserve water under the Stage 2 Restrictions. The wells of several of our neighbors have either gone dry or they have had to drill further. Our water usage does affect our neighbors so please conserve neighborly. Most of us moved to Cross Mountain for the serene beauty of the Hill Country. We welcome the growth in our area and we want to establish and maintain good neighbor relations. Pets can be wonderful companions but now that more houses are being built we need to be mindful of our neighbors. Barking dogs and other noisy pets are good at deterring potential intruders but constant barking and noise, especially at night can be an annoyance. Please be aware of your pets affect on your neighbors. The BOD welcomes input from home owners. Do you have a problem, issue, or complaint that you believe the home owners association needs to investigate? If so, e-mail our CMR Community Liaison, Stephen Van Cleave at liaison@ crossmountainranch.org Residents are also encouraged to attend the monthly BOD meetings held the 1st Tuesday of every month. cross mountain ranch HISTORICAL LEON SPRINGS,TEXAS

Leon Springs is on Interstate 10 nineteen miles northwest of downtown San Antonio in northwestern Bexar County. In 1846 it was the site of a stagecoach stop operated by George von Pleve, a German nobleman and immigrant. A post office was established in 1857, and by 1885 the town had a steam cotton gin, a general store, two hotels, and a population of fifty. During World War Iqv Leon Springs was the site of an officers' training camp. The post office was closed in 1918, and by the mid-1930s the population had fallen to twenty-five. The town began to grow again during World War IIqv due to activity at Camp Stanley and Camp Bullisqqv in the nearby Leon Springs Reservation. In 1946 the community had a population of 100. Subsequently, the number of residents remained steady, and in 1990 and 2000 the reported population was 137. “Hand Book of Texas Online”, Christopher Long
