GOD JUDGES

Genesis 6-9 | Week of February 21

Adam and Eve left the garden, and over time, many people filled the

earth. Everyone everywhere forgot about God and were only doing bad things all the time. So God’s heart was filled with pain when he saw what had happened to the world he loved. Everywhere he looked, he saw disease and death and destruction. God knew he had to judge people for how they had disobeyed him.

But there was one man who was God’s friend. He listened to God,

talked with God, and loved being with God. His name was Noah.

“Noah,” God said. “Things have gone wrong. People have filled the

world with hate instead of love. They’re destroying each other. I have to stop them. First, we’ll build an ark.” God showed Noah the plans for how to build this big boat.

“I’m going to flood the world,” God said. “But I will rescue you. I

promise.” The rain would wash away all the evil and sadness from the world and make it clean again. God had thought up a way to keep Noah safe, but Noah would have to trust God and do exactly as he was told.

So Noah built a big boat in the middle of a desert. Unlike Adam,

Noah trusted that what God said was true. It was going to rain a lot, and Noah was making sure he and his family would be safe.

When everything was ready, Noah’s family and two of every kind of

animal on earth climbed aboard. God shut the door to the ark to keep them safe while it rained for hours, then days, then weeks. While the whole world was destroyed, God was with Noah and his family to keep them safe for a long forty days at sea.

Eventually the sun came out and dried everything up. Noah walked

out of the boat onto dry land and praised God for rescuing him.

This isn’t the last time God would have to rescue his people from

judgment. In fact, this was just one part of his Great Rescue Plan. One day he would send a Rescuer to save his people forever. uhbc.net/jesusisbetter
