GOD PROMISES

Genesis 1-3 | Week of February 14

In the beginning, there was nothing. Nothing to hear, feel, or see.

Nothing but nothing. But God was there, and he had a wonderful plan.

“I’ll take this emptiness and fill it up!” God said, “Out of darkness,

I’m going to make light. And out of the nothing, I’m going to make everything!” And all it would take were his words. Whenever God spoke, things just appeared.

God said, “Hello, light!” and light came from the darkness to make

night and day. Then he said, “Hello, sea and sky!” and a great space opened up. God called it good. Then God said, “Hello, land!” and up through the water came cliffs, mountains, and beaches. God saw it was good. Then God made grass, flowers, stars, the moon, the sun, and every animal you can think of. He called them all good, and he loved it all.

But he saved the best for last when he made Adam and Eve. “You

look like me,” he said. “You’re the most beautiful thing I’ve ever made!” God loved them with all his heart, and they loved him.

Until one day when everything went wrong. A horrible enemy, named

Satan, wanted to ruin every good thing God had made. So he disguised himself as a snake and convinced Adam and Eve that God didn’t really love them as much as he said. The snake told them that God lied when he gave them rules to follow. “Just trust me,” the snake whispered. “You don’t need God. You can be happier than ever without him.”

Adam and Eve believed the lie, and they disobeyed God by doing

exactly what he told them not to. So God punished them. He sent them out of his perfect garden into a life of hard work. Sin brought sadness into the hearts of God’s people.

But God promised that he wouldn’t leave them alone forever. He

had a never stopping, never giving up, always and forever love for his creation. He was beginning a Great Rescue Plan to make everything right again. uhbc.net/jesusisbetter
