The Lord’s Supper is a physical action, taught by Jesus, through which God acts to nourish, sustain, comfort, challenge, teach and assure us. The celebration of the Lord’s Supper nourishes our faith and stirs our imaginations to perceive the work of God and the power of the Gospel more clearly.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION THE THREE-FOLD TRUTH - v. 2

GOSPEL RESPONSE ALL I HAVE IS CHRIST

Congregation: (Shouted with great joy!) CHRIST HAS DIED! CHRIST IS RISEN! CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN!

I once was lost in darkest night Yet thought I knew the way The sin that promised joy and life Had led me to the grave I had no hope that You would own A rebel to Your will And if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still

THE CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER TIME ALMIGHTY GOD • A PURITAN PRAYER

But as I ran my hell-bound race Indifferent to the cost You looked upon my helpless state And led me to the cross And I beheld God’s love displayed You suffered in my place You bore the wrath reserved for me Now all I know is grace

Almighty God, As I cross the threshold of this [year,] I commit myself, soul, body, affairs, friends, to Your care; Watch over, keep, guide, direct, sanctify, bless me. Incline my heart to Your ways; Mold my wholly into the image of Jesus, as a potter forms clay; Make my lips be a well tuned instrument to sound Your praise. Let no evil this day soil my thoughts, words, hands. May I view all things in the mirror of eternity, Waiting for the coming of my Lord, Listening for the last trumpet call, Hastening to the new heaven and earth, May I speak each word as it was my last word, And walk each step as a final one. If my life should end today, let this be my best day. O Jesus, I bring all that I am and I come to You.

It is an act that helps pave the way for revival, renewal, and rejoicing. East Cooper Baptist Church welcomes to the Lord’s Table all who have trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior. If you are uncertain where you stand in your relationship to Christ, or are not ready to take the Lord’s Supper this morning for any reason, please allow the elements to pass by and continue to use this time to seek the Lord in prayer.

Leader: By this we are upheld when doubt or grief assails, Our Christian fortitude and only grace prevails:

THE LORD’S SUPPER

THE GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

The Church in Corporate Worship

New Year’s Communion Service

Please use the following prayer to prepare your hearts for worship: HEAVENLY FATHER, As we begin this new year, forgive us for often setting our minds and hearts — our affections — on things that are on earth, and living our lives as if those things are of utmost importance. We have not cultivated an eternal perspective, instead we have looked to things that are transient to justify ourselves and to find meaning.

JANUARY 1, 2017

9:30 and 11:00 am Combined Services

As we gather for worship on this first Sunday of a new year, we delight in the glory of The Gospel through our songs, readings, and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Let us gather in worship as those who are desperate for Christ, who are hungry for His Word, and ready to delight in all that Christ is. Only Christ can satisfy the deepest longings of our heart and the deepest needs of our soul every day in this brand new year... HALLELUJAH! ALL I HAVE IS CHRIST! HALLELUJAH! JESUS IS MY LIFE!

REFLECTION

THOUGHTS FOR WORSHIP PREPARATION

We are deeply sorry and we humbly repent.

And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ‘till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more? -- Dr. Seuss

Teach us to understand that our lives are hidden in Christ and that when he appears, we will appear with him in glory.

He came from heaven to earth, to show the way; From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay; From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the skies, Lord, I lift Your name on high. -- Donnie McClurkin

Vanity of Vanities.

Give us a foretaste of this glory in our worship of you this morning... and all year long, and give us a longing to live every day in the light of the reality of The Gospel. Amen.

Thou hast restored us to this ease By this thy heav’nly blood, Which I can go to,when I please, And leave th’ earth to their food. -- George Herbert Do ye therefore, clothing yourselves with meekness, become the imitators of His sufferings, and of His love, wherewith He loved us when He gave Himself a ransom for us, that He might cleanse us by His blood from our old ungodliness, and bestow life on us when we were almost on the point of perishing through the depravity that was in us. -- Ignatius (A.D. 68) The cross was the pulpit from which Jesus preached. -- Augustine Jesus invites His saints To meet around His board; Here pardon’d rebels sit, and hold Communion with their Lord. For food He gives His flesh, He bids us drink His blood, Amazing favour! Matchless grace Of our descending God! -- Isaac Watts, (1707)

Ac•cla•ma•tion: n. 1: a loud eager expression of approval, praise, or assent 2: an overwhelming affirmative vote by cheers, shouts, or applause rather than by ballot.

MORNING WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS VIDEO

JOYFUL, JOYFUL, WE ADORE THEE ODE TO JOY

REJOICE IN THE GOSPEL ALWAYS If life be long, I will be glad, That I may long obey; If short, yet why should I be sad To welcome endless day? Christ leads me through no darker rooms Than He went through before; He that unto God’s kingdom comes Must enter by this door.

(Mirriam-Webster)

Four times in our services this morning, we will shout together the Gospel Acclamation: CHRIST HAS DIED, CHRIST IS RISEN! CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN!

Come, Lord, when grace hath made me meet Thy blessèd face to see; For if Thy work on earth be sweet What will Thy glory be!

This is an affirmation of the reality of The Gospel in our lives - let us proclaim this truth this morning -- and let us live it out everyday -- with great joy!

Then I shall end my sad complaints And weary sinful days, And join with the triumphant saints That sing my Savior’s praise. My knowledge of that life is small, The eye of faith is dim; But ’tis enough that Christ knows all, And I shall be with Him. Richard Baxter (1615 - 1691)

Leader: This is the threefold truth on which our faith depends, and with this joyful cry worship begins and ends: Congregation: (Shouted with great joy!) CHRIST HAS DIED! CHRIST IS RISEN! CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN!

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hades. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. * universal church
