got questions? Does God still do the miraculous (Matthew 9:32-34; 10:5-8)? Even though we live in a culture that questions and doubts the existence of miracles (i.e. because of philosophies such as naturalism, theological liberalism, or cessationism), Christianity is a supernatural faith that distinctly trusts the power of God. In fact, the gospel of Jesus is God’s power doing in us, for us, and through us what we cannot do on our own. It is through the miraculous that God reveals who He is and that His power is more than enough to accomplish in us and through us all that He desires. We rely on the power of God (with much discernment) to live the Christian life and to strengthen our faith (Ephesians 1:17-19; 2 Timothy 3:2-5). SHARING TESTIMONIES Share with those in your group about your level of skepticism concerning miracles and the power of God? How comfortable or uncomfortable are you with the idea of God working supernaturally? What experiences have you had with the miraculous? GO DEEPER What miracles did Jesus demonstrate in Matthew 9:32-34? What was the response of the crowds, and of the Pharisees, to the miracles? What instructions did Jesus give to His disciples in Matthew 10:5-8? Were those commands exclusively for His twelve disciples, or do they apply to believers today as well? What are those commands dependent on? According to 2 Peter 1:3, what have we received through God’s divine power? In 2 Timothy 3:2-5, what are the characteristics of those who have a form of godliness but deny God’s divine power? MAKE IT PERSONAL What do you think needs to change in you in order to be more open-handed to the power of God and the miraculous? What do you need to pursue or do in order to position yourself to experience more of God’s supernatural power? How do you discern what is truly a demonstration of the power of God (and not scams, falsehood, or acts of the devil)? PRACTICE IT NOW We are trained to be skeptical of many things, including the supernatural. But ultimately the essence of our faith is to trust God to do for us what we cannot do ourselves. This is why Paul earnestly prayed, “…that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. Take time as a group to pray that you will know the power of God in your life and in the lives of those around you. Ask the Lord to remove any form of skepticism towards His miraculous hand, and to fill you with an ever-increasing trust in His power. Ask Him also to give you immense wisdom and discernment in recognizing what is truly a supernatural work of God and not falsehood or deception.
