Ministry Residency Program at Denver Seminary INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Youth Ministry Residency LOCATION: Grace Church ABOUT: Grace Presbyterian Church is a multigenerational community of faith on a journey to awaken and enliven people to joyfully encounter the living Christ in the world. POSITION SUMMARY: The Youth Ministry Internship program is designed to complement an intern's educational experience with practical ministry experience. The internship program offers supervised, practical experience in all aspects of Youth Ministry. The ultimate objective of the internship Program is to prepare a person both personally and professionally for lifelong ministry/work with Youth. QUALIFICATIONS: Strengths: We are looking for an intern with some youth ministry experience, who feels called by God to youth or pastoral ministry. The ideal candidate will be someone pursuing a seminary education who is passionate about Christ, who brings energy, imagination, and above all love into everything they do. We seek someone who is highly relational, someone who understands the basic challenges and gifts of youth culture, technology, and adolescent development. This position involves coordination, so organizational skills are a must. The Youth Ministry Intern will be accountable to the Associate Pastor, and will work with the Associate Pastor to set goals and achieve milestones during the nine month internship. If, at the end of supervision, the relationship is discerned to be a good fit in the ministry, the candidate will be eligible for continuation in the internship. TUITION CONSIDERATION:

$4,000 September 1st, 2015 through June 1st, 2016 10% tuition discount Taxable Living Stipend: $0 Budget for books, curriculum, continuing ed available upon approval.

ESTIMATED TIME COMMITMENT: 8-10 hours per week

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Responsibilities include: • Mentoring & Relationship building • Activity coordinating - helping coordinate and plan weekly Sunday youth group: lesson, activities, adult mentors, communications • Leading discussions - helping lead Sunday discussions around issue, topic & scripture with other adult mentors

• Helping plan & lead retreats and events - January winter weekend retreat, 30 Hour Famine, a Confirmation retreat, monthly service opportunity or fun activity • Attend supervision meetings and monthly Youth Committee meeting Opportunities for first hand experience of cultural issues & pressures facing teens, along with engagement between churches and community support and assistance programs. The opportunity to experience the workings of the church at session and presbytery level. Monthly supervision and mentorship regarding vocational and personal growth.

DEFINITION OF THE MINISTRY RESIDENCY PROGRAM: By Definition the Residency Program is an Internship and contains the following: 1. Similar ministry training as that available in and through schooling for future clergy; 2. This training is for the benefit of the trainee; 3. Resident is not a replacement for a regular employee, but works under close observation; 4. This program is considered to be of greater value to the trainee than to the employer; 5. Trainees are not necessarily entitled to a job at the completion of the program; 6. Employer and trainee understand that trainees are not entitled to wages for the time spent in training.
