GradeCam Troubleshooting

GRADECAM TROUBLESHOOTING FIRST: Review ‘GradeCam Tech Recommendations’ document. Quick troubleshooting         

Browser: You upgraded to a current browser? (e.g. Chrome) Plug-in: Only the current GradeCam plug-in is installed? Glare: You reduced/removed light glare on sheets? Laminated Sheets: These can produce glare and skew image. Have you removed glare? Pencil: Penciled responses can produce glare and skew image. Have you removed glare? Focus: You verified your camera is focused? Depth: You changed the camera depth from sheets (moved sheets closer, farther)? Web cam: If having trouble with a doc camera, you tested with a web cam? Restart: You restarted your browser and tried again? If that didn’t help, you restarted your computer?

I can’t see the video window   

Is your camera plugged into a rear USB port? Try a USB port in back of your computer. Did you plug your camera into your computer before you opened your browser? First plug-in your camera, then open your browser. Is your camera selected? Go to Assessments - GradeCam - Settings - select your camera - click Save.

I see the video window but can’t scan       

Have you tried restarting your browser? Restarting your browser and/or computer can often resolve issues quickly. When looking at the video window, is your page upside down? Go to Settings - select ‘Flip Image’ - click Save Settings. Is your camera selected? Go to Assessments - GradeCam - Settings - select your camera - click Save Settings. Are your sheets blurry or not in focus in video window? Slowly adjust your focus, then rescan sheets. Have you set the appropriate height from sheets for your camera? Sheets too close or too far may not scan. Lower and raise camera slowly. Did you test your answer sheets? If you modified answer sheets, you need to test and ensure they will work. Are you using a document camera? Is the camera on the compatibility list? Turn off the camera’s software and also the projector, then restart the browser and rescan.

I am scanning but GradeCam freezes or crashes scanning  

Are you using an older version of the GradeCam plug-in? Older versions of the plug-in must be removed and the latest version installed. Did the student mark inside the thick black box or student id area? If using a document camera, have you tried running testing with a web cam? Web cams are often faster and do not require add’l software. What browser are you using? Upgrade to a recommended browser.

I am scanning but verifying a lot of responses    

Are you using an older version of the GradeCam plug-in? Older versions of the plug-in must be removed and the latest version installed. Did you try turning off the lights? Too much lighting or glare can overexpose sheets. Turn off the lights and rescan. Do student marks appear nice and dark in your video window? Pencil marks can reflect light and thus get missed by your camera. Try turning off lights. Are you using a document camera? Is the camera on the compatibility list? Turn off the camera’s software and also the projector, then restart the browser and rescan.

I am scanning but results are inaccurate        

Did you try turning off the lights? Too much lighting or glare can overexpose sheets. Turn off the lights and rescan. Pencil used? Pencil marks reflect light and may get missed by your camera. Turn off lights and rescan. Erasure marks? Erasure marks can be read as a bubbled response. Did you pencil in student ID? Pencil marks reflect light and may get missed. Darken student id with a black marker. Lightly bubbled answer choices? Lightly bubbled responses may be missed by GradeCam. Try darkening responses. Are your sheets blurry or not in focus in video window? Slowly adjust your focus, then rescan sheets. Ignoring the prompt messages? Prompts must be reviewed. Did you scan to the correct assessment? Verify that you are scanning to the correct assessment.

I’m using a document camera    

Not all document cameras work with GradeCam Review our ‘Document camera compatibility list’ Different doc cameras may require different solutions. Review our ‘Document camera solutions’ Have you installed the latest driver or software for your doc camera? You must use the ‘AVer plus’ driver only. Go to ou the HELP system and search for ‘AVer’. Did you do a web cam test? Plug n’ play web cams can be easier to use the document camera. Try a web cam.
