Hanover Square Ticket Hall Works Update Over the last month the eastern ticket hall at Crossrail Bond Street station reached a milestone: completion of the first floor slab below ground level. This involved pouring a total of 850m3 of concrete. It was also a busy month for installing temporary steel props and starting the excavation under the new floor slab down to minus level 2.

Duration of work • CSJV working 08:00 until 18:00 with provision to work 24/7 where necessary • BFK are continuing to work 24/7 to support the tunnelling works below ground

What to expect

Above: Standing on the completed level -1 slab looking up

The excavation down to minus level 2 will continue over the next month. We will also continue to remove the temporary concrete piles and slabs which will make way for the construction of the permanent slab at minus level 2. This will start around the end of July.

• Removal of excavated material from site by road. • Break out and removal of temporary slabs and piles

What we will do • Monitor dust, noise and vibration to keep it within permitted levels • Use wire cutting techniques for removing the temporary piles to minimise noise and vibration • Traffic marshalls on site to help with traffic flow and vehicle access

Above: Looking into the excavation at level -2

There is likely to be an increase in the number of lorry movements each day to take away all of the excavated material and concrete for this next phase and we will continue to monitor and manage this additional traffic effectively. Continued overleaf…

Excavation Works Level Minus 3 to 5

Ground Floor Level

Excavation works below the minus level 2 slab are due to commence in mid August 2014. This involves the removal of excavated material and construction of reinforced concrete slabs sequentially at minus level 3, 4 and finally at minus level 5. This is represented by the purple box to the right showing a cross section through the eastern ticket hall. Level minus 5 is approximately 30 meters below the street.

Level -1 Slab Level -2 Slab Level -3 Slab Level -4 Slab

Level -5 Slab

This construction sequence will adopt the same method as was carried out for the construction of minus level 1 and 2. Each excavation sequence will start in the south east corner of the eastern ticket hall box and will progressively move north and west, removing the excavated material from level methodically. This sequence of excavation provides access and allows the temporary piles (purple) and temporary slabs (green) shown above to be removed safely. Once the temporary piles and slabs are removed, the permanent floor slabs will be constructed. After the floor slabs have gained the required strength through the curing of the concrete and laying steel, excavation will begin to the next level, where this sequence is repeated until minus level 5

Excavating material

Duration of work • Level -3: Aug - Oct 2014 • Level -4: Oct – Jan 2015 • Level -5: Jan – Apr 2015

Removing pile sections

What we will do at each level • Excavate material • Remove temporary piles and slabs • Construct reinforced concrete slabs

Pouring concrete

What to expect • muck away wagons • wagons removing pile sections • Reinforcement deliveries • Concrete wagons
