Harvest Our church is about real people, experiencing lasting change, through an amazing God. God calls us to extend that same opportunity of lasting change to people here, there and everywhere! As a church, we encourage followers of Christ to be His hands and feet to those in need emotionally, physically, relationally, and spiritually: to meet the whole person with the fullness of God’s truth, love and grace. Harvest encourages small groups, families and individuals to serve both inside and outside the walls of our church. We all want to invest in things that matter and last, but with so many needs and opportunities, sometimes it’s hard to know what to do and where to go. This brochure provides information on a handful of excellent ministries that we are privileged to partner with. It also provides additional opportunities representing our commitment to be witnesses for Christ to those numbered among the least and last. To serve, just go to myharvest.church; click on Harvest Cares, and fill out the information form. We have leaders ready to help you or your group make a connection and a difference in someone’s life!

MISSION:

Touch My Heart is dedicated to caring for, encompassing, and enriching the lives of individuals with special needs, their families, and the community as a whole. This is accomplished through relationship building, meeting needs at the local level, small and large-scale recreational activities, socialization, awareness and education.

MISSION:

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children who are hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and they ship these meals to distribution partners around the world. FMSC meals have reached nearly 70 countries.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Volunteers can sign up to pack food Monday-Saturday at the Aurora site. Packing shifts are either 1.5 or 2 hours long depending on time of day. Minimum age for volunteering is 5 years old.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Touch My Heart has many volunteer opportunities for people, either individually or as a small group, to serve individuals with special needs in our community. Opportunities for service include monthly or quarterly social visits to group homes (The Touch My Home program), weekly food distribution, or serving at social events that are held at various locations throughout the year.

MISSION:

Wayside Cross Ministries exists to honor God by loving and serving the afflicted and powerless by sharing the Gospel of forgiveness and hope in Jesus Christ, and empowering them to be disciples of Christ. WCM works with men and women who are hurt and broken, trusting God to transform them for His glory.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Small Groups can work in the Wayside Cross warehouse, helping sort donations that are sold at the Hope Chest store. Groups can also work in the Hope Chest store, helping organize merchandise. At Lifespring, the women’s ministry of Wayside Cross, groups are needed to help with cleaning and painting projects. There are additional opportunities during various holidays throughout the year.

MISSION:

World Relief practices principles of transformational development to empower local churches in the United States and around the world so they can serve the vulnerable in their communities. World Relief works holistically with the local church to stand for the sick, the widow, the orphan, the alien, the displaced, the devastated, the marginalized, and the disenfranchised.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Small Groups can gather household and personal items and help set up a refugee family’s first apartment. Refugees need someone to pick them up from the airport, help them learn English, fill out job applications, and practice interviewing skills. Volunteers can also assist with special events, play soccer, do crafts, do housework, office work, and much more!

faceted ministry that compassionately serves thousands of men and women annually in the DuPage County area who are dealing with the devastating effects of unplanned pregnancies.  CareNet counselors reach out to women with unconditional love and non-judgmental counseling, offering resources, ultrasounds, and emotional and spiritual support.

MISSION:

180 Chicago aims to reach fatherless boys in the most difficult neighborhoods of the inner city of Chicago, turning each of them into the great men that God desires them to become. The goal is to help them to see a great VISION, challenge them to trust God’s POWER, teach them to walk in the TRUTH, guide them to discover their STORY, and launch them into a life of true GREATNESS!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Harvest is partnering with 180Chicago by adopting 10 blocks in the heart of the city. Individuals and groups are encouraged to make a financial contribution toward this partnership by clicking the Missions tab when giving online. In doing so, you will be invited to tour the neighborhood, receive quarterly updates, and be made aware of specific ways you can pray for the young boys and families who live there. For those meeting the qualifications and willing to give the time, you can also apply to serve as a 180 Chicago Mentor.

MISSION: Pregnancy Information Center in Aurora is the

only Pregnancy Resource Center in the area that offers parenting and life skills classes in addition to providing accurate information about pregnancy, fetal development, lifestyle issues, and related concerns. Pregnancy Information Center is committed to walking the journey with each client (and their partner) from the moment they take their pregnancy test all the way through their child’s first birthday so men and women confidently step into parenting.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Opportunities to serve include giving items (baby clothes, wash cloths, bibs, toiletries, etc.) to provide Baby Shower gifts for expectant or new mothers, giving diapers and wipes to support CareNet Baby Banks and clients, teaching life skills, serving as prayer partners for clients, donating reusable items to the Family Tree Resale Shop in Glen Ellyn and providing office support help (stuffing envelopes, mailing preparation, etc.) on an as-needed basis.

ADOPT A SCHOOL MISSION:

Harvest is adopting Beaupre Elementary School in Aurora, a school with tremendous needs. There are 402 students in the school and 82% of these are considered low income. Our aim is to partner with school administrators and meet some of the physical needs of kids, families, and teachers. Our passion is to share the love of Christ in very tangible ways.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Throughout the year there will be opportunities for individuals and groups to provide backpacks, school supplies, coats, hats, gloves, and sports equipment. We also hope to send work teams, classroom volunteers, and tutors to the school in order to enhance school facilities, build relationships, and assist students.

PASS THE JOY MISSION:

Pass the Joy is an opportunity to share the joy of Christmas with those in need within our own church family and in our immediate community. Christmas can be an especially difficult time for some. Our desire is, through very tangible gifts and acts of kindness, to shine the light of Christ on those living in the dark days of financial, emotional, relational or spiritual struggle.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: During the month of December, you can provide gifts for children in our community who have a parent in prison through Angel Tree. You can also donate $25 gifts cards from select stores that will be given to deserving families and individuals in our church. Watch for details in the bulletin and for displays set up in our lobbies.
