TIMES HARVEST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 14305 Covenant Way, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202 941-907-7333 | JULY 2017

May I stoke your curiosity about church names? Generally, over the past century, each generation of church planters has elevated a common theme in their era. Some groups thought naming the church’s location was most important, while others believed that identification with a major figure in Christian history would bode well for connecting with the community. Here are some of the categories you may have noticed in local United Methodist churches that you have come across: Name of town/city – Myakka City UMC, Parrish UMC First denomination of town/city – First UMC Bradenton, First UMC Palmetto Christ/Christian saint – Christ UMC, Wesley UMC, St. James UMC Neighborhood/geographical marker – Lakewood UMC, Braden River UMC Theological term – Grace UMC, Faith UMC, Hope UMC, Trinity UMC Biblical image – Harvest UMC, Good Shepherd UMC, Cornerstone UMC Concept – Crossroads, Collective, Lifesong We at Harvest United Methodist Church have the fortune of bearing a name with rich biblical meaning. Planting, growing, and reaping are found throughout the pages of the scriptures. The Bible begins and ends with God tending a garden, inviting people to join in. I hope you will find it fitting and fascinating to spend worship during July exploring the depths of what it means for us to live out the name of Harvest. May the Lord bless and keep,

Pastor Michael

CHURCH OFFICE FLOOD

Had you heard? A water pipe in the church offices burst a couple weeks ago. Even though it was after 5 p.m. , staff members were still in the office and noticed the leak almost immediately. None the less, the carpet was ruined, has been ripped out, and will be replaced soon. All is well! Harvest Times | Harvest United Methodist Church | 3

Harvest is our name, as well as our work. Planting, growing, and reaping are found throughout the pages of the scriptures. God invites us to know the joy of working in the garden, sowing seeds of faith and growing together in Christ. Join us in July to explore what it means for us to live out the name of Harvest.

CLEAN SWEEP DAY Harvest will be closed on Tuesday, July 18 for our annual Clean Sweep Day. After a busy summer, our church staff has lots to go through, much to clean up, and even more to organize. The church facilities will re-open on July 19. If there is a pastoral emergency, call 941-907-7333 and leave a message for Terry Cox.
