January 3, 2017 PASTOR’S PONDERINGS

What’s ahead for us in worship? The worship this week will be led by the United Methodist Women. The service will be planned and lead by various women around the theme “Created for Happiness” based on the Beatitudes found in Matthew 5:1-11. The following Sunday, January 15, we begin a series of sermons called: Can We Be Civil? The recent campaign and election revealed that we are divided nation. Social media creates echo chambers where we listen to people we already agree with and we fail to engage in constructive ways with others. Our United States is becoming in many ways less united. And yet, we are called love our neighbor and build bridges of compassion and understanding with those who are different. The series will run the remainder of January and on through February. Blessings,

Pastor Steve

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. MATTHEW 5:14-16 Oh, how this little idea and endeavor of ‘Let’s make some soup’ has grown! With immense gratitude, Mark Mayer
