HIS STORY: Week 10 – God To The Rescue! Open in Prayer W elcom e/Introductions/Cast Vision Rem ind the Grow Group of the ground rules Share context of the story [Provide context by sharing the information below.]

When Moses met God at the burning bush, he was an unlikely leader for several reasons: because of his past (killing the Egyptian taskmaster and fleeing), because of his position (a shepherd in Midian), and because of his own protests (he couldn’t speak well). God didn’t call Moses because he was a great leader. Rather, Moses became the leader God wanted him to be because he was transformed by “I AM.” Tell the story – Exodus 3-13 [Have someone tell the story.] Rebuild the story [Group members tell the story together based on what they remember.] Read the story out loud [Read the scripture passage to see if anything was added or omitted.] Discuss these questions:

1. What do we learn about God from this passage? [God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called (I Corinthians 1:27-29); God meets us where we are and moves us to where He wants us to be; God gives his people tasks and accomplishes His work through them (II Corinthians 1:8-9); when God is with us, no man can stand against us (Romans 8:31); God’s enemies will try to counterfeit His works; God sometimes uses signs and wonders to show His presence; God rescues his people; etc.]

2. What do we learn about Man/Us from this passage? [I can be overwhelmed with selfcondemnation and let it prevent me from following the Lord; I cannot hide from God; I can make excuses, trying to avoid what I know God wants me to; I can feel forgotten by God; a man who is truly called and led by God can accomplish anything; I can trust God to provide me victory in the face of obstacles and tests that challenge my faith; I can see the mighty works of God and still be unchanged (i.e. Pharaoh); etc.]

3. What is God saying to you specifically through this passage as it pertains to your life, marriage, family, and work? 4. In light of what you’ve learned today, what do you need to do to obey God? Other Q uestions specific to this passage:

1. Moses was in the desert for 40 years before God sent him on mission. Has there been a time when you felt like God was taking too long in showing you your next step? When? 2. What excuses do you use to avoid being obedient to God? Assign Next week’s passage – Exodus 14-15 [Ask someone to tell the story.] Close in Prayer

HIS STORY: Week 10 – Leadership Coaching The purpose of this page is to help you sharpen your skills as a Grow Group leader. Each week, we will include concepts, challenges, and resources designed to assist you as you lead and shepherd your Grow Group and grow as a disciple yourself.

Leading [learn to facilitate your group more effectively] o Prepare well by praying and knowing your material. o Facilitate, don’t teach. Facilitation cultivates discussion; teaching only disperses information. o Don’t feel like you have to know all the answers. We are human, and it’s okay for your Grow Group to see that you are limited. o Don’t talk more than the rest of the Grow Group. Ask questions to generate discussion, ask people to explain their answers and go into more depth. Allow multiple people to respond, even if the first person gets the “right” answer. Do your best not to interrupt.

Shepherding [know the sheep, feed the sheep, lead the sheep, protect the sheep] Discuss our core values with your Grow Group this week. As an extension of our church body, we encourage you to spur one another on in making these a priority in your Grow Group and encouraging those in your group to commit to them at home as well. o o o o o

Developing [grow as a disciple yourself] In order to confidently speak truth into those around you, you must have the Truth cemented in you. Contemplate this verse this week: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 Do you really believe that God is in control of EVERYTHING around you?
