HIS(STORY)

Introduction: In the world of reporters and law enforcement everything comes down to getting the story straight. Better yet, the goal is to get to the heart of what really happened. In the end, sometimes what was thought to be the big story becomes only a footnote. It seems Christmas has gotten lost in the midst of the competition. Who came? Why did He come? How does His coming affect my story? Here’s the story: A baby was born, God came to write us into His amazing story. Scriptures: Romans 3:23 Luke 2:11 Galatians 4:4 Luke 1:1-4-TPT Luke 2:1-7-TPT Discussion Questions: 1. Why might it have been important to Luke to cite the historical context that was connected to the birth of Jesus? 2. The assassination of the mighty Julius Ceasar in 44BC was directly connected to events that would transpire in a dreary outpost called Bethlehem. What lessons can we learn from these two events? 3. In what area of your life have you specifically seen the sovereignty of God at work? 4. Jesus was born at a specific time in human history. How have you allowed God’s timing to guide a decision or action? 5. Two thousand years later, we now realize that Ceasar Augustus was the footnote to the real story. How can we do a better job staying focused on the main thing and not the footnotes? Moving Forward: • Surrender to God’s Sovereignty • Trust God’s Timing • Embrace the Work of the Holy Spirit Changing Your Mind: Two thousand years ago, it seemed that Ceasar Augustus and his decree for taxes was the big story…two thousand years later, Ceasar was, and is only a footnote to a surprising story. In the end it was all about Jesus. His Story!
