WHITE HOUSE

H I S TO RY CALL FOR PAPERS White House History, the quarterly journal of the White House Historical Association, features articles on the historic White House and its occupants. With the knowledge that the White House is probably the most richly documented house in the world, and the premier symbol of the American presidency, we publish original research that draws from these resources as well as first-hand interviews, secondary accounts, and the vast wealth of illustrations of all kinds, from drawings to photographs, in exploring the many aspects of so extensive a past. We serve a varied readership, both popular and academic, interested in history, architecture, and biography, all of which we present in the context of the White House and its ongoing traditions. White House History welcomes submissions in the form of abstracts of original scholarship from historians, scholars, and experts of diverse specialities with related expertise, and former White House workers. Abstracts will be considered on February 1, May 1, and October 1 of each year. Topics currently being considered: Secret Service: Protecting the President • The Presidents Abroad White House Weddings • Solved and Unsolved Mysteries • Gardening and Floral Display Fine Art at the White House • Entertaining at the White House White House Photographers: Profiles and Memories The White House in Children’s Literature Presidential Sites: Beginning in summer 2018, each issue will include an article on a specific presidential site. We welcome topics not only related to presidential homes and birthplaces, but sites associated with the lives of the presidents or dedicated to them. Also to be included are sites owned or occupied by the presidents during or after their administrations. Various Topics: Our issues occasionally include a variety of topics. We remain interested in presidential and first family biography, historic events, workers’ memoirs, and studies of documentary letters, journals, diaries, illustrations, and unpublished photographs of the White House.

Authors interested in submitting an article are asked to complete an Abstract Submission Form. To obtain the form, contact [email protected] or download the PDF. The substance of proposed articles should not have been published elsewhere. Visit www.WhiteHouseHistory.org to view the contents of back issues of White House History.
