Ç EVERYONE FOR Review • Make a list of the different cultural views concerning women. How are these similar or different from what we see in God’s Word? • There are some ways in which God’s design for women is distinct from His design for men. How and why did God create us similar but distinct? • Wives find in the church’s submission to Christ a model for intelligent, gracious, trusting, and respectful submission. Why is submission not just for wives, but for everyone? Why does submission involve both attitude and action? Apply • How has this teaching challenged or encouraged your view of marriage? What passages in God’s Word can be used to inform and/or change your thinking? • How can you, regardless of your relationship status, help encourage, uphold, and promote God’s design for wives?

FOR WIVES Review • • •

Read Ephesians 5:22-24. What is the significance of the phrase “as to the Lord”? How does this change your attitude, expectations, and tenacity regarding what God calls you to as a wife? Which role comes most easily or naturally to you: Follow, Fan, Fulfill. Which is most difficult? How does nagging, coercing, and manipulating your husband make you god and in charge of your husband’s change?

Apply • • •

What does it look like for you to follow your husband in your current season of life? What one step can you take this week toward submission to your husband’s leadership? Are you a good fan or a bad fan? Do you criticize or cheer? Encourage in public or just private? Are you skeptical or optimistic? What one step will you take this week to speak highly to and of your husband? How can you fulfill your husband as his helper in one of the following ways (do something you wouldn’t naturally gravitate toward)? Companionship, Emotionally, Physically, Spiritually, Parentally, Domestically, Ministry.

FOR HUSBANDS Review • • •

Are there areas in your marriage where you have unfair expectations and standards for your wife? What are they? How can you practically remind your wife that only God can completely fulfill her? How does believing this truth for yourself free your wife from unfair expectations? Consider this: submission can never be demanded; it’s earned through love. Do you live by this truth? If not, how can you focus on loving your wife this week?

God’s has called your wife to follow, fan, and fulfill. How does this encourage and bring a healthy severity to God’s call on your life to lead, love, and learn your wife? Pray for your wife to have a growing and vibrant relationship with the Lord. Confess to the Lord and other men in your group the ways your view of marriage has been distorted. Ask your small group to hold you accountable to these things. Speak truth and encourage each other from God’s Word alone.
