Warm-up

What  is  one  of  your  favorite  Christmas  season  memories?  What  made  this  so  special?     As  we  enter  the  Christmas  season,  we  are  going  to  be  discussing  what  it  means  to  be  adopted  into  the   family  of  God.

Word and Application

Read  Romans  8:14-‐17.  What  does  it  mean  to  you  to  know  you  can  be  a  called  a  child  of  God?  How  can  the  idea  of   being  a  child  of  God  be  healing  for  people?     Read  Isaiah  59:2  and  Genesis  3:7-‐12.  God  loves  us  and  wants  us  to  be  in  an  intimate  relationship  with  Him.  How   has  sin  damaged  our  relationship  with  our  Heavenly  Father?  How  has  sin  hurt  our  relationships  with  other  people?     Selfishness  is  a  result  of  sin  and  causes  division  between  God  and  us.  Selfishness  can  also  cause  distance  between   people.  How  has  selfishness  damaged  relationships  in  your  life  (with  God  and  with  others)?     Because  of  sin,  our  relationships  with  God  and  others  have  been  damaged.  The  good  news  is  that  God  has  given  us   a  way  to  heal  our  relationship  with  Him  and  with  others.     Read  1  John  3:1.  How  has  God  given  us  the  opportunity  to  have  our  relationship  with  Him  healed?       It  is  through  God’s  freely  given  love  that  we  can  be  healed.  How  has  God’s  love  brought  healing  to  you  both   spiritually  and  emotionally?     God  showed  His  incredible  love  for  us  by  sending  His  son,  Jesus,  to  pay  the  ultimate  sacrifice  for  our  sins.

Read  1  Timothy  2:5-‐6.  Jesus  paid  the  price  for  our  sin  –  He  is  the  ultimate  sacrifice  and  displayed  the  greatest  act   of  love  mankind  has  ever  seen.     Jesus  knew  He  would  not  be  able  to  physically  be  present  in  the  world  forever,  so  He  promised  to  send  the  Holy   Spirit  –  the  great  comforter.     Read  John  14:16-‐17  and  Romans  8:15.  What  role  does  the  Holy  Spirit  play  in  the  lives  of  Christians  today?  How  has   the  Holy  Spirit  made  a  difference  in  your  life?       How  will  your  Christmas  season  be  different  as  a  result  of  our  discussion  today?

Prayer

Ask  God  to  bring  healing  to  everyone  in  your  small  group  so  they  can  experience  their  greatest   Christmas  season  ever.  Also,  ask  for  specific  prayer  requests  from  each  member  of  your  small  group.
