Warm-up

Why  do  you  think  most  people  would  rather  spend  time  with  people  are  similar  to  themselves?     Today  we  are  going  to  discuss  how  God  can  give  us  the  ability  to  find  value  and  develop  relationships  with  people   who  are  different  from  us.

Word and Application

Our  relationship  with  Jesus  should  lead  our  relationships  with  others.  Christ-‐followers  should  be  the  best  at   relationships  because  of  the  example  of  Jesus.     Read  John  19:25-‐27.  How  did  the  people  mentioned  in  these  verses  have  their  lives  impacted  by  Jesus?  How  has   Jesus  impacted  your  life?       What  Jesus  did  on  the  cross  is  central  to  all  Christ-‐followers  do  and  who  they  are.  Giving  his  life  on  the  cross  for  us  is   an  example  of  how  we  should  surrender  our  lives  to  him  on  a  daily  basis.     Everyday  we  need  to  make  sure  we  surrender  our  lives  to  Christ.  This  will  keep  us  focused  on  him  and  living  our  lives   on  purpose  for  him.  What  are  some  of  the  greatest  challenges  you  face  in  living  a  surrendered  life?     If  you  are  a  Christian  you  should  be  excellent  at  the  different  roles  God  has  placed  you  in  (spouse,   employee/employer,  friend,  parent,  teammate,  etc.).  How  has  Jesus  impacted  your  relationships?     Read  Luke  9:57-‐62.  When  we  live  a  surrendered  life,  we  make  ourselves  greater  influencers  for  Jesus.  If  you  live  a   fully  surrendered  life,  how  do  you  think  people  around  you  will  be  impacted?     Small group lessons are available at Leadership.ChurchoftheKing.com

Read  John  19:26-‐27.  How  do  you  think  the  people  Jesus  was  speaking  to  in  this  critical  moment  grew  in  relationship   with  each  other  as  a  result  of  Jesus  speaking  to  them  from  the  cross?       Our  relationships  with  others  should  be  impacted  as  a  direct  result  of  what  Jesus  has  done  for  us  on  the  cross.  The   death  and  resurrection  of  Jesus  should  be  what  brings  us  together.  However,  if  all  we  do  is  focus  on  the  cross,  but   lose  how  it  influences  our  relationships  we  can  lose  a  lot  of  the  power  of  the  cross.       Read  1  John  4:11-‐12.  How  has  the  power  of  the  cross  impacted  your  relationships  with  others  (forgiveness,  unity,   etc.)?     Read  Proverbs  27:17.  Who  are  some  of  the  people  in  your  life  who  God  has  brought  to  you  as  a  way  to  sharpen  you?     What  is  God  speaking  to  you  today  as  a  result  of  our  discussion?  What  are  you  going  to  do  to  grow  closer  to  God  and   to  others  whom  God  has  placed  in  your  life?

Prayer

Pray  for  everyone  in  your  small  group  to  learn  to  how  to  love  and  value  people  who  are  different  from  them.  Also,   take  time  to  ask  for  specific  prayer  requests  from  those  in  your  small  group.
